  Acelino Freitas - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Acelino Freitas (born September 21, 1975), is a native of Bahia, Brazil, who is a boxer and a former world junior lightweight and lightweight champion.
Freitas dropped Casamayor in round two and went on to add the WBA belt to the WBO one he already had by beating Casamayor by a close but unanimous 12 round decision on January 12 of 2002.
Freitas was floored in rounds eight and eleven, but retaliated with a knockdown of his own towards the end of the eleventh, and ended up retaining the title by knockout in round twelve.

Freitas maintained his undefeated record all by knockout, when he drilled Rios with a ripping right hand to the face early in the ninth.

Freitas had escaped with a TKO victory in a fight where he proved he could face serious adversity and still come out on top.

Acelino Freitas was named the World Boxing Association's "2003 Fighter of the Year" during the WBA executive meetings on Saturday in Caracas, Venezuela.
Acelino, who was accompanied to Caracas by his wife Eliana and promoter Art Pelullo, received the award on Saturday night at the Latin American Festival of Boxing "KO to Drugs" fight card sponsored by the WBA.
Acelino also won the award as the World Boxing Organization's "2003 Fighter of the Year," and his fight against Jorge Barrios on August 9 in Miami was named the WBO's "2003 Fight of the Year." Acelino had previously won the WBO's award as "2000 Fighter of the Year."
