 HMS Achates ("A" Class Destroyers)
Then at 11.15 she suddenly re-appeared dangerously near to the convoy, and quickly crippled the destroyer Achates, which was devotedly shielding her charges with smoke.
On the British side there was every reason to be satisfied with the outcome, for although we lost the Achates and Bramble, the sinking of the Eckholdt and the damage inflicted on the Hipper balanced the material account fairly evenly; and, most remarkably, not one ship of the convoy suffered more than superficial damage.
On 30th January, 1943, Donitz thus became Commander-in-Chief of the German Navy; and the man who had all along been the chief advocate of the U-boat arm was at last given the power to direct his country's entire naval effort-just when the events in the Atlantic were plainly moving towards a climax.

ARS | Publication request: Rearing and Morphology of the Knapweed Weevil, Cyphocleonus Achates
However, low fecundity and variable development times, as well as insufficient knowledge of how this insect interacts with its environment and host plants (i.e., in relation to development, reproduction and diapause), have limited their use both geographically and seasonally.
We obtained field populations of C. achates adults and reared them under various combinations of laboratory and greenhouse conditions, using both the host plant as well as meridic diets.
The development of a rearing system that continuously produces large numbers of Cyphocleonus achates will increase their availability for release in different geographical areas throughout the U.S. at appropriate times for each region and will increase their availability for biological studies to better understand their interactions with their environment and host plants.

Aeneas and Achates on the Libyan Coast by DOSSI, Dosso
Aeneas' wanderings around the Mediterranean after the sack of Troy and his rise to kingship in Italy were immortalized in The Aeneid, an epic poem written by Virgil (70-19 B.C.).
Dosso's painting represents the episode when Aeneas and his friend Achates were shipwrecked off the coast of Libya and cast up at Carthage.
The similarity of this picture's vivid green pigments to some of the repainted foliage in The Feast of the Gods implies that Dosso could have been responsible for the first alteration to Bellini's masterpiece.
