The origins of Acid House can be traced back to the 1980's when DJ’s used the House music that was already popular in Chicago and New York mixed with the “squelch” and deep baseline of the Roland TB-303 synthesizer.
Eventually Acid House spread across the Atlantic and arrived in the United Kingdom where it would become the central part of the early rave scene.

Acid is a derivative of the old style Acid House.
Commonly, the origination of acid house is attributed to Phuture's DJ Pierre (and Ron Hardy who played the tracks at Chicago Club, the Music Box) who was messing around with the Roland TB303 and liked the acid sound.
With the release of Phuture's Acid Trax in 1986, a new style of house was coming into play and the link between the music and the club drug (Ecstasy) brought this new style of house even more attention, especially in the UK, where the scene was subjected to a mass media assault.

Acid house is not so much a new thing, as a drastic, terminal culmination of two tendencies in house: the trance-inducing effects of repetion and dub production; a fascination for the pristine hygiene and metronome rhythms of German electronic dance.

The style of dance that exploded American house music around the world, acid house first appeared in the mid-'80s in the work of Chicago producers like DJ Pierre, Adonis, Farley Jackmaster Funk, and Phuture (the latter of whom coined the term in their classic single, "Acid Trax").
Mixing elements of the house music that was already up and running in Chicago (as well as New York) with the squelchy sounds and deep bassline of the Roland TB-303 synthesizer, acid house was strictly a Chicago phenomenon until stacks of singles began to cross the Atlantic, arriving in the hands of eager young Brits.
By that time, the acid house phenomenon had largely passed in England and was replaced by rave music.
