When your Aconitum plants stop blooming after 3 or 4 years, dig up the clump in early spring (WEARING some kind of protective rubber gloves) and divide it, because the clump has probably gotten overcrowded.
Don't mess with Aconitum roots/tubers (except maybe the baby seedlings ones) ungloved, because Aconites, especially the roots, are extremely toxic.
If you have lost an aconitum in the past, don't try another in that location, because the soil will be infected and will just pass the disease along to new plants.

While no plant is deer proof, Aconitum is close.
