Within the lobe-fined fishes are two major subgroups, the Actinistia (Coelacanths and extinct lineages) and the Dipnoi (lungfishes).
The fins have fleshy, paddle-like paired fins, with heavy bony elements that connect the distal portions of the fins with the pelvic and pectoral girdles (sometimes the fins are modified into much thinner appendages as in some lungfish).
The Actinistia consist of the extant coelacanths and related extinct groups.

Their fossil record starts in the early Devonian although the more primitive taxa seem to appear later indicating the stratigraphical distribution does not match closely the current accepted pattern of their interrelationships and hence much of their development must have occurred much earlier than the fossil record would suggest.
Onychodontiformes, Actinistia (including the extant coelacanth, Latimeria), Dipnomorpha (including the Dipnoi, lungfishes), Rhizodontiformes, Osteolepiformes, Panderichthydia and the Tetrapoda.
The fossil record begins in the Giventian, with the number of species increasing from the Devonian to Carboniferous, they decrease in the Permian, peak in the Triassic, decrease to the end of the Cretaceous, then disappear from the fossil record from the Tertiary.

The Sarcopterygii are known as “fleshy-finned” fish because the skeletal support for their paired fins extends outside of the body wall.
The entire group is often called “lobe-finned” as well, making for some confusion between the group as a whole and the subgroup Actinistia.
The Actinistia are represented by only one extant form, a "living fossil" called the coelacanth from the Indian Ocean.

DINOFISH.COM - Weird Bodies Frozen in Time
The classification of coelacanths is a murky business with more than one vairation in the class category, but we'll give it a shot.
Kingdom: Animalia, Phylum: Chordata, Class: Pices (fishes), Sub class: Gnathostomata- jawed fishes, Sub class: Teleostei- bony fishes (though cartilaginous, coelacanths are usually classed with the teleosts), Sub class: Sarcopterygii (lobed-finned fishes), Order: Crossopterygii, Family: Actinistia (coelacanths), Gennus: Latimeria, Species: chalumnae and menadoensis.
The coelacanth appears to be a cousin of Eusthenopteron, the fish once credited with growing legs and coming ashore-360 million years ago- (today scientists prefer to cite the tongue-twisting fossil candidates: icthyostega, panderichthyes, and acanthotega) as the ancestor(s) of all tetrapods (amphibians, reptiles, and mammals)including ourselves.

Devonian Times - More about Lobe-Fin Fishes
Most lobe-fins belong to one of three major groups: the Actinistia (coelacanths), the Dipnomorpha (lungfishes and Porolepiformes), and the Tetrapodomorpha (Rhizodontoformes, Osteolepiformes and Elpistostegalia).
The Actinistia first appear in the Middle Devonian and become relatively diverse during the Carboniferous, decline in the Permian and again become diverse in the Triassic.
They apparently decline through the remainder of the Mesozoic, with the last fossil record occurring in the Late Cretaceous.

This is another broad type that includes the coelacanth which still exists today, but is somewhat different from its fossil counterparts (Forey, 1998).
The coelacanth belongs to the Actinistia, whereas osteolepis belongs to the 'Osteolepiformes', a group of sarcopterygian fishes that bears specific affinities to tetrapods, including similarities in limb patterning and the presence of an internal nostril.
They call a set of bones by the same name and that is supposed to prove evolution.
