Overview of comic book TV movies
TV shows sometimes generate TV movies as spinoffs, or a TV movie is used as a "pilot" to sell a new series -- sometimes unsuccessfully.
Batman had the notorious Adam West TV series, in which two half-hour episodes aired each week, the first always ending with a cliffhanger where Batman and Robin would be tied to a giant waffle iron while the countdown ticked away on the fiendish plot to douse the whole city with Beatnik Gas.
It was obviously spliced together from episodes of the TV series, and there were many areas of mediocrity in the effort.

 Animating Action Man
The new series, based on Hasbro's Action Man, follows the adventures of a young, athletic thrill-seeker who travels the globe participating in heart-pounding sports competitions while trying to avoid the evil Dr. X.
Action Man stars characters who are completely human, whereas the other shows that Mainframe has worked on have all featured creatures or characters that are either "cartoony" or half-man/half-machine.
Because of this, the studio is animating 20 to 30 percent of the new series using motion-capture technology.

Still, the last time I checked, "competent" and "workman-like" did not translate to "commercial and critical smash." Of course, that was before CSI came along, back in the day when the universe still made sense to me. There are plenty of reasons for me to hate CSI.
The better crime dramas on TV -- your Homicides, your Hill Street Blueses, even your short-lived EZ Streets -- were as much about character as they were about story.
Maybe that will change as the series progresses, and the writers become a little more comfortable with their charges.
