Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Comics (or, less common, sequential art) is a form of visual art consisting of images which are commonly combined with text, often in the form of speech balloons or image captions.
The narration of a comic is set out through the layout of the images, and whilst there may be many people who work on one work, like films, there is one vision of the narrative which guides the work.
In the United States the term "comics" is sometimes used to describe the page of a newspaper upon which comic strips are found, and through this usage has also grown to be used as a definition for comic strips.

In general, the basic paradigm for Golden Age comics was the detective story, in which a hero, super-powered or not, used his skills to track down and capture criminals; while the paradigm for Silver Age stories in the comics was the science fiction tale.
Action Comics had a Superman story in every issue in the 1950's, and their average quality was surprisingly high.

Action Comics #835 Review - Silver Bullet Comics
My problem with Livewire as introduced in the comics isn't based on my preconceived notions about the character but at the way she was brought into the series.
It is straight-up action (which works since this is Action Comics) and once he realizes that Livewire knows where Lois is, he gets right down to the matter and uses his head to take the villain down.
Gail's ability to write the Lois and Superman relationship was a highlight of her run on the series and after the previous writer on Action, it was nice to have a writer on the book who liked the marriage enough to deal with it without having tension for the sake of tension between the two.

 Comics UK - Action
When Action hit the shelves on Valentines Day 1976, the comic world was about to be turned upside down by a new, no holds barred pictorial for boys.
One, it was one of the few comics that got banned in Britain (1950's Horror comics were the others), and Two, from the ashes of this ban, came the artists, writers and editors of another ground-breaking publication, 2000AD.
Not that I'm knocking that, but Action was a little bit special and who knows where it would have gone had it have kept going.

I imagine the reason DC archived Superman in multiple series has much to do with the initial popularity of the character with his multiple appearances, plus the fact that many of Superman's first stories in "Action Comics" were reprinted in his the first issues of his own solo title.
Since I am largely up to date on the "Superman Archives" proper, which reprinted the solo series, going back and reading "The Action Comics Archives" is fun little treat, as one is reminded of how much the character changed in just his first decade.
Superman: The Action Comics Archives volume 1 reprints only the Superman stories from Action Comics #1, and #7-20 (issues 2 thru 6 were reprinted in early issues of Superman).
