Five of the six pall bearers, Colonels Little, Payne, Gilpin, Ramsay an Simms, were members of No. 22, as were three of the four ministers present, one of them being the Chaplain Colonel George Deneal, J.W., commanded the military organizations in attendance while several of his subordinate officers were members of the Lodge.
In civil as in military life he was preeminent among his contemporaries for the clearness and soundness of his judgment, for his perfect moderation and self-control, for the quiet dignity and the indomitable firmness with which he pursued every path which he had deliberately chosen.

Thus the action of these students led to the organization of the American Board of Commissioners for Foreign Missions, a society widely known and justly revered at the present day as the missionary organ of the Congregational church of America, and indeed the mother of American foreign missionary societies.
2:2: "For we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him." The leading thought of the sermon was the evidences of the divine power of the Christian religion in the East.
These wise and conservative men advised the students to submit their case to the General Association, a body representing all the Congregational churches of the State of Massachusetts, and which was to meet at Bradford the next day.

MSN Encarta - Print Preview - War of 1812
The month of February 1815 began with the darkest period of apprehension that the American people had known since the terrible winter of 1776 and 1777 during the American Revolution.
On February 4 the first break in the pessimism came with the news of Jackson's victory at New Orleans.
This action caused much alarm, but the exhausted state of U.S. finances and the economic decay caused by the British blockade offered little hope that hostilities could end successfully for America.

The War of 1812 also gets lost in the historic time line between the Revolutionary War (everyone knows what that was about) and the nation's bloodiest conflict, the Civil War (people still earnestly debate what that was about).
In a nutshell, the War of 1812 was about revenue and respect, and how the British were preventing the nascent United States from having either.
Taking up this challenge is a core group of War of 1812 enthusiasts--a loosely organized collective of authors, researchers, and re-enactors that stay in touch mainly via the Internet, where they dream up re-enactments such as the one at Fort McHenry.

 ROE v. Wade
Such an action, however, would appear to be one to vindicate the parents' interest and is thus consistent with the view that the fetus, at most, represents only the potentiality of life.
At its meeting in February 1972 the ABA House of Delegates approved, with 17 opposing votes, the Uniform Abortion Act that had been drafted and approved the preceding August by the Conference of Commissioners on Uniform State Laws.
A pregnant single woman (Roe) brought a class action challenging the constitutionality of the Texas criminal abortion laws, which proscribe procuring or attempting an abortion except on medical advice for the purpose of saving the mother's life.

Thus, the joint action of the upper-level anomaly, as a spin-up agent, and the latent-heat flux, as a sustainer of convection, emerges as the primary factor for the genesis and evolution of the small quasi-tropical cyclone.
Airborne Doppler radar data obtained while the frontal system was well offshore indicated that a narrow ribbon of very high radar reflectivity convective cores characterized the rainband at low levels with echo tops to ~4-5 km, and pseudo-dual-Doppler analyses showed the low-level convergence of the prefrontal air.
The surface cold front was characterized by a sharp temperature drop (8 deg C in 8 minutes), strong pressure rise (3 hPa in 30 minutes), and gusts to 40 m -1.

What I don't think anyone's addressed is the inherent danger in viewing military service as a way of directly serving God, or military action that's intended to serve God's "higher purpose." Western nations tried that with the Crusades, when we tried to "retake" the Holy Land, and that produced nothing.

 Bloomfield-Pike Letterbook
In the earliest days of the War of 1812, New Jersey Governor, Joseph Bloomfield, resigned his office to accept a commission as Brigadier General in command of the 3rd Military District.
Though nearly 60 at the time, Bloomfield organized and trained new troops near New York City, then marched a column of 8,000 to the scene of action at Plattsburg, N.Y. Later in the war, he was instrumental in the defense of Philadelphia.
It documents two months of Joseph Bloomfield's command at Plattsburg, September-November, 1812, and the last two months of Zebulon Montgomery Pike's life, while commanding American forces at Saranac and Sackett's Harbor, N.Y. This letterbook contains no letters written after the departure of American forces from Sackett's Harbor during the assault on York, Ont.
