		Activision responded harshly Thursday to a patent infringement lawsuit brought against it by guitar maker Gibson.
		And while EA, in its press release, did not make any reference to Vivendi's December agreement to purchase Activision, there can be no doubt that this is the response EA had to make to keep its spot as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the video games business.
		According to the company, which was recently bought by communications giant Vivendi, Activision brought in third-quarter profits of $272.2 million, nearly twice its profits of $142.8 million from the same quarter a year ago.

		Activision always had some sort of high score or level you needed to beat in order to earn a patch.
		The Activision logo is missing from most games (it ran across the top or bottom of the screen and was removed to keep a decent aspect ration) and there have been some relatively minor gameplay alterations, including a slightly lower framerate (which seems odd for games that are 20-some years old).

	Activision sues Viacom over lack of decent Star Trek // GamesIndustry.biz
		Publisher Activision has filed a lawsuit against media giant Viacom for failing to make enough Star Trek, in a lawsuit filed in the Superior Court of the State of California yesterday.
		Apparently Activision is upset that since the signing of a 1998 agreement for the rights to videogame development, Viacom has only produced one Star Trek film and has taken two popular television series off-air, leaving just one show with weak ratings in their stead.
		As a result, Activision has terminated the agreement and filed a complaint seeking to recover damages.
