Activision posts - Geek Gestalt - by Daniel Terdiman - CNET News.com
Activision responded harshly Thursday to a patent infringement lawsuit brought against it by guitar maker Gibson.
And while EA, in its press release, did not make any reference to Vivendi's December agreement to purchase Activision, there can be no doubt that this is the response EA had to make to keep its spot as the undisputed heavyweight champion of the video games business.
According to the company, which was recently bought by communications giant Vivendi, Activision brought in third-quarter profits of $272.2 million, nearly twice its profits of $142.8 million from the same quarter a year ago.

Activision - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
As a result, Activision changed its corporate name to Mediagenic in order to have a name that would globally represent all its fields of activities.(Mediagenic is often mistaken to be a company that purchased Activision but in reality it was only Activision with a different name).
Despite this change, Mediagenic continued to largely use the Activision brand on its video games of the various platforms it was publishing for, notably the Nintendo Entertainment System, the Sega Master System, the Atari 7800, Commodore 64 and Amiga.
In 2003, Activision, along with several other game software publishers, was investigated by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for its accounting practices, namely the use of the "return reserve" to allegedly smooth quarterly results.

 Activision Anthology Review
Activision always had some sort of high score or level you needed to beat in order to earn a patch.
The Activision logo is missing from most games (it ran across the top or bottom of the screen and was removed to keep a decent aspect ration) and there have been some relatively minor gameplay alterations, including a slightly lower framerate (which seems odd for games that are 20-some years old).
While the appeal of Activision Anthology may be limited to gamers from the 80's, the universal appeal of the games included should appeal to everyone.

Publisher Activision has filed a lawsuit against media giant Viacom for failing to make enough Star Trek, in a lawsuit filed in the Superior Court of the State of California yesterday.
Apparently Activision is upset that since the signing of a 1998 agreement for the rights to videogame development, Viacom has only produced one Star Trek film and has taken two popular television series off-air, leaving just one show with weak ratings in their stead.
As a result, Activision has terminated the agreement and filed a complaint seeking to recover damages.

And in the Activision corner: "Allen knowingly made these representations to Activision to convey the false impression that Spark would be comprised of the group that could take credit for creating, developing, and producing Medal of Honor from beginning to end and which was responsible for its success."

Activision Blizzard is just a trade name, it won't appear on anything and for all intents and purposes management won't change.
However their very first measurable action was to slap the Blizzard name onto the Activision label suggesting an attempt to blend brand names of a different quality without an appropriate reflection in the company structure.

Spark: J'Accuse Activision - Ferrago   (Site not responding. Last check: )
Spark claim their original contract with Activision covered three titles, not one, and they are angry that the publisher gave away the sequel (Call of Duty: Big Red One) to Grey Matter and Treyarch.
"Activision refused to pay Spark the royalties owed on Finest Hour or the bridge financing due under the contract, stole Spark's idea, and then hired away Spark's own employees to develop that sequel, hoping that if Spark was sufficiently crippled, Spark would be unable to protect its rights," GameSpot quote from the official court filing.
Spark believe that ideas presented to Activision concerning a sequel were rejected, but then subsequently included in the design of Big Red One, whilst they also state that Activision illegally charged them 1.9 million USD in development assistance for a multiplayer mode beyond the original design specification agreed.
