 Sequence Diagram in UML
In the last article, we saw Activity diagrams, the notations to be used in Activity diagrams, their significance, and how to build an Activity diagram.
Because it uses class name and object name references, the Sequence diagram is very useful in elaborating and detailing the dynamic design and the sequence and origin of invocation of objects.
One of the most widely used dynamic diagrams in UML is the Sequence diagram, which is the topic of our discussion today.

DotnetCoders - UML : Activity Diagrams
Activity diagrams are used to document workflows in a system, from the business level down to the operational level.
In fact, the Activity diagram is a variation of the state diagram where the "states" represent operations, and the transitions represent the activities that happen when the operation is complete.
Activity states mark an action by an object.

The process of displaying this module dependency diagram for a selected activity involves identifying the subactivity object associated with the activity, obtaining the names of each of the activities listed in the subactivity object and generating the appropriate display.
If a module dependency diagram were to be developed for the objects in this object hierarchy, it would indicate where each activity is used in decompositions of other activities.
A data flow diagram is similar but represents how modules of a system are interconnected to perform the steps of a process but focuses on the ordering relationships imposed by the fact that data produced by some modules is used by other modules.

Introduction to UML 2 State Machine Diagrams
A state represents a stage in the behavior pattern of an object, and like UML activity diagrams it is possible to have initial states and final states.
This is the exact same notation used by UML activity diagrams, a perfect example of the consistency of the UML.
UML state machine diagrams depict the various states that an object may be in and the transitions between those states.

USCD1100: SOLUPLOT, Eh-pH Diagram, a02-pH Diagram Plots for Aqueous Chemical Systems
The diagram axes, pH (a measure of hydrogen ion activity) and either Eh or log aO2 (measures of the tendency toward either oxidation or reduction), are parameters commonly applied in describing the chemistry of aqueous systems.
The initial diagram is now effectively divided into a number of subdiagrams, each representing the intersection of the area of predominance of one Eh-pH-dependent ligand species.
Over an area of predominance, one predominant species is at greater activity than the other species of the system considered.

Pourbaix diagrams, which correlate corrosion mineralogy with local redox and acidity conditions, can be used to demonstrate that certain minerals (in fact most sulfide minerals) form, in natural waters away from hydrothermal activity, only as a result of microbiological action.
These are termed modified log activity diagrams (McNeil and Mohr 1992) and are particularly useful in systems where the metal ion has more than one valence state.
The issue of using stability diagrams to determine whether corrosion product layers are the result of processes over archaeological times or whether they could be the product of relatively short-term processes has never been comprehensively addressed.

To present the phase equilibria in two-dimensional diagrams, it is necessary to construct projections of phase stability regions on planes perpendicular to the pH and Eh axes in four-dimensional figures with coordinate axes of pH, Eh, chloride activity, and copper activity.

 TEAF
Because the Activity diagram is currently (UML 1.4) specified as being an extended statechart, and its structure is simply that of an extended flow chart, many users find it to be an inconvenient diagram to use at this perspective level.
In fact, the UML Activity diagram, under the current UML 1.4 spec that establishes it as an extended statechart, has been argued by some to be a poor choice for modeling business processes and activities at the Owner (conceptual) level.
You may either build the functional hierarchy diagram first, and use the matrix as a reporting tool to view relationships, or specify relationships between functions and processes in the matrix and automatically build the functional hierarchy diagram.

 Introduction to OMG UML
UML defines twelve types of diagrams, divided into three categories: Four diagram types represent static application structure; five represent different aspects of dynamic behavior; and three represent ways you can organize and manage your application modules.
We don't intend this introductory web page to be a complete UML tutorial, so we're not going to list any details of the different diagram types.
UML Profiles (that is, subsets of UML tailored for specific purposes) help you model Transactional, Real-time, and Fault-Tolerant systems in a natural way.

An activity parameter node is an object node that appears at the beginning or end of a flow to accept inputs to an activity and provide outputs from it.
This activity involves ensuring, for each analysis package, that the package is highly independent of other packages and that it realize s a set of class es and/or use case s, and also describing the dependencies among these packages.

Slashdot How Do OOP Programmers Flowchart?
Activity diagrams come immediately to mind (these are very close to the classic flowcharting techniques), but state charts and sequence diagrams are useful also to supplement an activity chart.
For that purpose simpler is usually better, and a diagram that uses too many specialized symbols to denote subtle nuances is not simple; that stuff should be described in the text.
(States on state diagrams are states that parts of the system are supposed to be in for extended periods- message sequence charts are different because the flow is usually multitasking/parallel processing).
