Adachi (足立区; -ku) is a special ward (additional info and facts about special ward) located in the northern part of Tokyo (The capital and largest city of Japan; the economic and cultural center of Japan), Japan (A constitutional monarchy occupying the Japanese Archipelago; a world leader in electronics and automobile manufacture and ship building).
The ward is separated into two areas: a small strip of land between the Sumida River and Arakawa River and a larger area north of the Arakawa River.
The Adachi Land Transportation Office is located here, and automobiles registered at this office bear Adachi number plates (additional info and facts about number plates).

TOKYO, Oct. 11 (Kyodo) - Prosecutors on Wednesday demanded the death penalty for a former member of the AUM Shinrikyo who allegedly took part in a 1994 nerve-gas attack that killed seven people in Matsumoto, Nagano Prefecture.
Adachi Ward had requested the owner of the building to evict the AUM members and local residents had begun preparations for a protest movement.

TOKYO, September 20 (Kyodo) - Top AUM Shinrikyo member Fumihiro Joyu, the religious cult's former spokesman, left the group's Yokohama branch Wednesday and moved to a facility in Tokyo's Adachi Ward, police said.
AUM founder Shoko Asahara, whose real name is Chizuo Matsumoto, is at the Tokyo Detention House and is being tried on 17 criminal cases including the 1995 sarin gas attack on the Tokyo subway system, in which 12 people were killed and thousands were injured.
TOKYO, September 18 (Kyodo) - The Tokyo District Court on Monday ordered the Asahi Shimbun newspaper to pay 300,000 yen in damages to a man who was erroneously identified as an active member of the AUM Shinrikyo cult.
