  Adagia Restaurant
At Adagia, we ask you to join our table because we are bringing great things to it.
The seeds for Adagia were planted in the late 90s as owner Daryl Ross and Westminster Minister Randy Bare conversed about philosophy, community and their mutual desire to make the then run-down building more accessible to the public and less of an enigma.
For Daryl Ross, Adagia was a logical outgrowth of his continued interest in making organic and locally grown foods accessible for the campus community.

Adagia is an extension to the food services Westminster House has provided to the public since its establishment in 1910, and will be a welcoming environment to the campus community, said Scott Lorenz, director of Finance and Development at Westminster.

 ADAGIA : Encyclopedia Entry
Adagia (adagium is the singular form and adagia is the plural) is an annotated collection of Greek and Latin adages, compiled during the Renaissance by Dutch humanist Desiderius Erasmus Roterodamus.
The collection is the fruit of Erasmus' vast reading in Classical literature; he expanded it occasionally throughout his career, and the book did not attain its final form until close to his death.
The Adagia could only have been possible in the new world of European education, in which careful attention to a broader range of classical texts produced a much fuller picture of the literature of antiquity than had been possible, or desired, in the medieval period.

 Bay Area Restaurant Reviews: Adagia
There is no better way to do that than by sharing bread, so of course we made plans to go out to a couple of nice restaurants and rekindle the romance.
Now, Adagia would probably not come at the top of any list of romantic restaurants, but if you are young (or not so young) and in love, even this grown-up cafeteria will do.
Not that Adagia is really a cafeteria, though its long shared table in the middle of the large, rectangular room, and the lack of tablecloths, might suggest so.

'A beacon for other businesses': Berkeley alum Daryl Ross takes budget organic mainstream
Adagia opened in February in the former multipurpose room of Westminster House, a Presbyterian ministry that renovated the 1927 building to house students and Adagia.
Although Adagia often buys from the same suppliers as that Berkeley gastronomic temple, all of its dinner entrees — including duck confit and grassfed Montana beef — are less than $20.
After writing a multi-paragraph description of Adagia's food philosophy for the restaurant's opening, Ross jettisoned it in favor of a terse sentence in small type on the side of the menu.

Erasmus' relationship to the Church, his philosophy of Christianity, his conflict with Luther, coupled to his wanderlust and his Adagia are the ingredients for this second episode.
But his struggle for a true Christianity against a false religion was not only his life's work, it was also important in his ideals, and it brought him earthly fame as well as the inevitable envy that goes with it.
