A.S. Korteweg, 'Thierry II, count of Holland, and his wife Hildegard and their donations to Egmond Abbey', in: Byzantium and the Low Countries in the tenth century.
The first one portrays Dirk and his wife Hildegard laying the book on the altar in the church, which is depicted in the typical medieval combination of cross section and exterior view that was customary in the Middle Ages.
On the right-hand miniature, which has not been reproduced here, both spouses pray to St. Adalbert, the patron saint of Egmond, for intercession with Christ.

The name Siwara, which the later versions give to Edmund’s mother, is that of King Ethelmund’s mother in the legend of St. Botulf.
The name Alcmund for Edmund’s father was known at Bury by 1296, if we accept the account in the Vita Sancti Adalberti Diaconi of a visit to Bury by Abbot Florentius of St. Adalbert’s foundation at Egmond in the Netherlands in that year.
He saw there a Chronica Regum Angliœ, in which he read that St. Adalbert, whom he thought to be a brother of St. Edmund, had reigned before him for 37 years and seven months.
