However, due to the song's popularity and people wanting a ballad-like slow dance, a candlelight remix version was made specifically for the pure ballad-like mood.
Another remix of the song was made to commemorate the September 11th terrorist attacks.
The song features a little girl talking about her father who presumably died in the attacks, with the original chorus intermittently playing.

Adams solo career was launched with the release of his self-titled debut album Bryan Adams in February of 1980 on A&M Records.
Adams had already been touring, recording demos and working as a studio musician paying his rent for a few years, but it was when Adams formed a song-writing partnership with drummer Jim Vallance that things started to happen.
Adams filmed an appearance for MTV's popular Unplugged series in the fall of 1997, and it was released as an album in December.

Adams, meanwhile, was negotiating with RCA Victor Records for a separate recording contract, but when A&M got wind of that, they quickly signed him as an artist as well.
Adams and Vallance's "Back to Paradise," co-written by Pat Benatar and performed by.38 Special, was used in the film Revenge of the Nerds II in the summer of 1987 and became a singles chart entry, and in August Adams' co-composition "Hometown Hero" appeared on Loverboy's Wildside LP.
Adams was absent from the American charts for more than a year, then surprisingly returned via the dance charts for the first time in two decades.

Most of his songs are admittedly written in the throes of personal heartbreak and relationship problems and it would be amazing if Adams' songs did not become his own break-up anthems with their intensity and agility.
Adams is not without a sense of humor though, evidenced on the gently groaning "Tennessee Sucks." For someone who spends half his life recording in Nashville studios, his belief that "Tennessee sucks in the summer" is fairly convincing.
Adams remains true to himself and his work, and instead of releasing a loose collection of songs, he chose thirteen tracks to form a singular whole, and succeeds in making an album of songs originally not meant to go together.

Well, that was certainly a creative way of looking at the song, although with no mention of Vietnam, and no real history of social commentary in Bryan Adams' music, or career in general, I'd have to say that you're putting more into the song than was intended to be there.
How refreshing to hear a solid narrative song, with a set time of occurrence, people and places named, a plot line that moves, and a narrator looking back at the changes that have occurred in his life and in his way of perceiving the world since the events occurred.
It's only because Bryan Adams, a mostly lame artist, happened to pen this nugget of brilliance that the song is dismissed by hipsters who are afraid to admit that something written and performed by Bryan Adams is damn good.

I'm not a Smiths fan so the nod on the vocals isn't doing anything for me. It seems to me that he hasn't even come close to making anything as good as Heartbreaker since it came out.
There are good songs all over the place both released and unreleased but Gold had a lot of filler.
