As a politician, Mikolaj became involved in the reformatory movement propagated by the nobleman Samuel Zborowski.
In recognition for his service to his country, he was invited to the king's wedding, and on another occasion was honored with the appointment to be one of the carriers of the king's canopy at some religious or state celebration.
Were it not for the bequest of Mikolaj Jazlowiecki, who so generously gave to various causes to improve the welfare of his people, we would not have known that the town had amenities such as military and civilian hospitals, homes for the poor and the invalid, and at least symbolic school run by the parish.
In the beginning of the 16th century, however, the name of MikolajSieniawski, a known king's advisor, is mentioned in the town's records.
Still another document, the king's decree in response to Sieniawski's request, permitted a second trade fair to be held on the day of the parish's patron saint, Mary Magdalene.
The first Polish composer, Mikolaj Gomolka, was a frequent visitor to her court and enjoyed her enthusiastic support in his creative efforts.
The documents show the true picture which was behind the official mask of charity of brilliant representative of Sieniawski dynasty as well as their successors: Czartoryjski, Liubomirski, Potocki magnate families.
Though as far as I read Sieniawski sarcophagus was taken by Polish authorities retreating from the Soviet occupation in 1939 and as far as I read was placed in Piaskowa Skala Church near Cracow.
Besides the maintenance of "royal court" of Sieniawski dynasty, half hungry society was obliged "to fortify and repair the ground walls and wood fences" for the defense and also to keep on guard the ready guns and dust, in order to defend the town wherever there is such a need.
The castle, built by the Sieniawski family, was occupied by the same family until the death of the last of that house, AdamSieniawski, Count on Szkle i Myszy (glass and mice) and hetman.
Being an only child, she brought with her the Sieniawski fortune, which was the foundation for the incredible Czartoryski wealth.
There are 2 monasteries, the Bernadine founded in 1683 by Mikolaj Hieronim from Grany Sieniawski, the Ruthenian voivode and the Greek Catholic Bazilian in Krasnopuszcza founded by Jan III in 1665.
During the times of the Sieniawskis and Czartoryskis, it was a small palace for hunting, square in shape with four towers on the corners.
From the palace windows there is an enchanting view of the park’s ravines and ponds and, farther off, the hilly surroundings, as well as of distant Brzezany and the Bernardine monastery on a high and steep mountain, where it was built by Mikolaj Hieronim Sieniawski, the voivode of Ruthenia, in 1673.
The Czartoryskis inherited the estate from the Sieniawskis, followed by the Denhoffs, Lubomirskis, and finally Aleksander Potocki (son of Stanislaw, the Minister of Education) followed by Stanislaw (who died 12 December 1887).
In 1570 the estates of Stryj and the starosty went to the hands of MikolajSieniawski, governor of the castle Kamieniec, and field royal hetman (a Cossack headman or general—ed.
The next two years brought changes on the post of starost of Stryj – after Sieniawski, the next starost was Hieronim Filipowski, and after his death, the governor of the Krakow Province, Andrzej Tenczynski, was promoted to the starost office by the king of Poland, Zygmunt III.
Under the rule of King Stefan Batory, in 1576, Jews in Stryj received privileges to purchase houses and to carry on trade activity. Among King Batory's privilege for Stryj, one was an oddity--in the territory of the eastern part of Poland, only in the town of Stryj could scythes and sickles be offered for sale.
