Leonard Nimoy was raised in a Boston tenement, and decided to be an actor when he saw Charles Laughton in The Hunchback of Notre Dame.
Nimoy's first film was Queen for A Day with Darren McGavin in 1951, and his first leading role was a pretty good low-budget boxing drama called Kid Monk Baroni.
Nimoy thought that wasn't "futuristic" enough for Star Trek, and instead he came up with the idea that Vulcans know exactly where to pinch humans on the neck to instantly induce unconsciousness.

Raised in a Boston tenement, acting in community theaters since age eight, Leonard Nimoy didn't make his Hollywood debut he was 20, a bit part in Queen for a Day (1951) and another as a ballplayer in the perennial Rhubarb (1951).
Nimoy stated that he did not want to play Spock, or direct any Star Trek movie in which Spock was not an interegal part of the plot.
Nimoy has also appeared in a number of TV movies and miniseries, notably as Golda Meir's first husband in "A Woman Called Golda" (1982) and starred as concentration camp survivor Mel Mermelstein in Never Forget (1991), which he also produced.

As a child Nimoy saw that gesture used by rabbis during a Jewish ceremony (he was supposed to keep his eyes squeezed shut but he peeked).
While answering questions, Nimoy revealed that he was indeed limping during the original pilot episode, "The Cage." He said that Gene Roddenberry asked him to limp because he thought he would do a pre-episode where Spock's leg was injured.
Nimoy was later joined by Doohan, Nichols, Takei, Koenig and Whitney, all on stage together.

Spock, Leonard Nimoy played a role on the original Outer Limits program in an episode called “I, Robot.” The episode title was taken from a story by the same name written by Earl and Otto Binder (published under the pseudonym "Eando Binder").
Nimoy’s role in “I, Robot” was as a brash reporter covering the story of Thurman Cutler, a defense attorney brought out of retirement to defend a robot accused of murdering his creator, Dr. Link.
And the remade episode was directed by Adam Nimoy, Leonard Nimoy's son.

A minor mystery--Adam Nimoy (son of Leonard) gets thank-yous on Rain Parade’s LPs, yet it’s unclear what it was he did for the band.
Since I’d never heard of him opening doors for anyone else, it’d be nice to get the scoop--is there a Trekker who could tell me? Maybe they gave him a set of bongos, so he’d feel like he belonged.

It's not the kind of story I get to do within the B5 structure very often, and I'm extremely pleased with this one (and Adam Nimoy did a *bang-up* job directing it; he thinks it may be his best work ever).
Adam was great in that he's a *very* serious director who sits down and really thinks through the subtext of the episode, the thematic aspects, the underlying symbology, and then sits with the actor and *really* works with them so that they fully understand the nuances of the scene.
A lot of TV direction can be rushed...you're always under the gun...so it's rare to find someone who really takes his time and prepares the cast.
