  Adam Resnick @ Filmbug
Adam Resnick began his career as a writer on Late Night With David Letterman, where he shared an Emmy Award in 1987 and several Emmy nominations in the following years for Outstanding Writing in a Variety or Music Program.
Resnick's success and acclaim continued when The Larry Sanders Show, on which he was an executive producer and writer, was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.
Resnick was also a writer-producer for the cult sitcom Get A Life, which he created with writer-performer Chris Elliott (with whom he worked at Late Night With David Letterman).

Adam Resnick sits on the yellowed couch, suckling a beer and nods as he regales his crowd of three underclassman—all too intimidated by his size and status to leave halfway through his reminiscence.
Adam glared at the boy who was struggling with the growth of armpit hair and newly discovered pimples long burrowed under his flesh.
Adam forced a smile, nodded, shook his hand and congratulated the winner, unable to tell him about the losses that would come later, in a world where letters grew and shrank, no longer fitting where they were supposed to, or making amends for their transgressions in terminology.

Interview - Adam Resnick for "Death to Smoochy"
In the case of "Death to Smoochy," easily my favorite movie so far this year, that man is Adam Resnick, a fellow I was already a big fan of.
In 1994, Resnick wrote and directed one of my guiltiest of guilty pleasures, "Cabin Boy," the movie that made me the I'll-see-anything-Chris-Elliott-does fan that I am today.
Resnick returns to the wildly surreal with "Death to Smoochy," a Damon Runyon-esque blast of bright colors and dark humor.

Review: Cabin Boy   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-16)
Cabin Boy has its share of clever moments, but the most frustrating thing about Adam Resnick's script is that, while toying with a host of intriguing concepts, it takes neither the time nor the effort to develop any of them.
Cabin Boy is writer/director Adam Resnick's directorial debut, and the presence of his good friend Elliott helps sabotage it.
Resnick's next project is something called Hopetown, which he describes as "another sort of offbeat comedy -- that doesn't take place at sea." If he can expand on his current release's flashes of inventiveness, there's reason to be optimistic about Hopetown, especially since it won't feature Cabin Boy's marquee "actor".

The birth of Death to Smoochy began in the mind of Adam Resnick, a former co-executive producer of the acclaimed HBO comedy series The Larry Sanders Show, who was intrigued by the comedic possibilities of setting a film in the multi-million dollar, high-stakes world of children’s television programming.
Working from a detailed 20-page outline, Resnick swiftly delivered a screenplay so wickedly funny and compelling, the project came together in a matter of weeks — record time for a major studio feature film.
(In fact, screenwriter Adam Resnick had Norton in mind while writing the character.) “My first thought for Smoochy was Edward Norton,” DeVito reveals, “because I think he’s a brilliant actor, and this is such a different part for him.

Directed by that cackling goblin of pop culture Danny DeVito, from an acrid script by Adam Resnick that never met an elaborate string of vituperation it didn't like, Death to Smoochy is only marginally about what its ads suggest -- the dethroned Randolph, crazed with jealousy and rage, brainstorming violent revenge on Sheldon.
Adam Resnick's script feels as though it possibly used to be a lot darker in its final act.
Putting a happy face on the finale probably won't get many more people in to see the movie, but it won't satisfy those who like their fl comedy poisonous to the last drop, either.

KINNOPIO - Death to Smoochy   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-09-16)
He wrote some great one-liners that Williams delivered with his characteristic aplomb, and the mock songs for the shows are also surprisingly delightful and feel consistent with the typical children's show atmosphere.
It would appear the film is about the debilitating effects of money and greed, but it doesn't feel totally substantiated; that is, there are a lot of colorful characters that have a lot of great lines, but that aside, it boils down to a hazy story with too many useless roles.
But this is still Resnick's best work (which isn't saying much, with Lucky Numbers and Cabin Boy also on his résumé); he definitely has that weird sense of humor perfect for a dark comedy.
