		Because of the adamantium phrases such as adamantine and adamant (both adjectives) came to use in language as an expression of hardness.
		Adamantium as such exists but, as they said - and I see wikipedia is completely relying on fantasy - it's very expensive and hard as hell to make.

		Adamantium may be the strongest metal in the MARVEL universe, but there's not really any comparison in the DC universe.
		Adamantium is very strong, but you are correct in saying that there are any number of DC heroes who could easily damage/break adamantium (Superman and heat vision anyone, never mind stregth).
