Greater Addo Elephant National Park: News
THE Eastern Cape’s premier conservation project, the proposed Greater Addo Elephant National Park, has received attention in a top international science journal. The article in the US magazine Science focuses on a R55-million endorsement of the GAENP proposal won last month from the Global Environmental Facility.
Dr Guy Castley of SA National Parks said yesterday that comment would be received and assimilated and the next step would be planned from there.
Emphasising this achievement, it notes that the endorsement has been made at a time when GEF is cutting back severely on its budget.GEF members are voicing concerns about whether grant money is being spent wisely and the most pressing issue has been identified as the “weak scientific underpinnings of many projects”.
