Topic: Adduct

  Glossary: adduct
In biology, an adduct is a complex that forms when a chemical binds to a biological molecule, such as DNA or protein.
DNA adducts are altered forms of DNA that occur as the result of exposure to carcinogens (in the case of smokers these would be the carcinogens present in cigarette smoke).
A DNA adduct, once formed, can be repaired, resulting in a return to the original DNA structure or be mis-repaired, resulting in a mutation.

Patent 4205156: Novel imidazole-isocyanuric acid adducts and utilization thereof
It is confirmed that the adduct consists of 1 molecule of isocyanuric acid and 1 molecule of 2-methylimidazole.
For example, when the adduct of the present invention is incorporated as a curing agent, there is observed an advantageous phenomenon that the pot life of the resulting polyepoxy composition is extremely prolonged as compared with the case where only the imidazole component constituting the adduct is incorporated.
The 1-benzyl-2-methylimidazole-isocyanuric acid adduct (30 g) described in Example 27 was subjected to expelling distrillation under a reduced pressure of 30 mm Hg in a Claisen flask to obtain 15.9 g (93 mole % based on the adduct) of 1-benzyl-2-methylimidazole having a melting point of 51.degree.

In the intestines, removal of adducts in animals on either AIN-76A or MO diet was slower than that in the liver, while that in animals on the chow diet was similar to that in the liver.
The extent of adduct formation was expressed as relative adduct labeling (RAL) values, which were calculated by dividing the counts per minute (cpm) per adduct by the sum of the cpm in the adduct and the normal nucleotides, making adjustments for dilution and aliquot factors.
Adduct patterns were independent of the diet and were identical to those shown in Figure 1 in all cases.

The primary product of the reaction of (+)-anti-BPDE with DNA, the (+)-trans-anti-benzo a pyrene diol epoxide-N2-dG ((+)-ta BP G) adduct, is the most mutagenic BP adduct in mammalian systems and primarily causes G to T transversion mutations, resulting from the mismatch of aden ine with the BP damaged guanine during replication.
