Adelphi University is a private coeducational nationally accredited institute of higher education, with its main campus located in Garden City, in Nassau County, New York.
The college was founded in 1896 in Brooklyn, New York, and takes its name from its location on Adelphi Street in Brooklyn, where it is related to the Adelphi Academy, a private secondary school.
The university has announced construction of new academic facilities and expansion of existing structures commencing in March 2006.

While Adelphi University has a suggested application filing date of March 1 for the fall semester, every effort is made to process candidates on a rolling admissions basis.
Adelphi will accept in transfer up to 64 college credits from an accredited community or junior college and a maximum of 90 credits from an accredited senior college or university with the exception of those senior college credits previously applied toward a two-year program or an associate's degree.
Students transferring into the university with an associate's degree from a two-year college or a minimum of 60 credits from a four-year institution will have their transcripts evaluated in order to determine course equivalencies as well as exemptions from the university's general education requirements.
