Adenium multiflorum is a deciduous succulent shrub or small tree, 0.5-3 m tall, the shape resembling a miniature baobab.
Adenium multiflorum is planted extensively in the rest camps of the Kruger National Park, for example.

Adenium bear a certain resemblance to oleanders, non-succulent members of the same family from the Mediterranean shores of North Africa.
They are one of the few succulents to be grown for their flowers alone in many parts of the world, and in the last decade or so quite a bit has been accomplished in hybridization to increase frequency and ease of flower production and intensify color.

I would also advise not to wet leaves, as adeniums can sometimes burn in bright light when fertilizer salts are present on their leaves.
Its rare that adeniums will use the upper third of their soil and often this area serves like a mulch (one that is not needed by the adenium).
Adenium obesum tends to pollinate among itself rather easily, while A. multiflorum does not.

The leaves are the largest of Adeniums, 10 to 15 cm long.
Seems like Adenium boehmianum, but the leaves are a little wider and 1 to 3cm shorter and the anther tails do not reach up the mouth of the tube wich is glabrous.

Like their close relatives the Pachypodiums, Adeniums belong to the large botanical family Apocynaceae.
Outwardly there is less differentiation between the individual species than there is with Pachypodium and this has led to controversy as to how many species actually exist.
Adeniums are easy to grow and very robust.

The desert rose (Adenium obesum (Forsskal) Roemer and Schultes) is native to sub-Saharan Africa and Arabia.
Desert rose sometimes suffer from scale and spider mites, but the only pest I've noticed is the oleander moth caterpillar which strips foliage and flowers.
Adenium were named for Aden (the former name of Yemen, Oddaejn in Arabic) by Johann J. Roemer and Joseph A. Schultes.

It rotted in 1993, but I managed to root a small fragment, which has finally flowered this year.
