Topic: Adios (racehorse)

In the News (Wed 30 Dec 09)

Adios (racehorse) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Adios ( January 3, 1940 – 1965) was a champion harness racing sire.
The son of Hal Dale and the mare Adioo Volo, the horse named Adios was born on January 3, 1940 at Two Gaits Farm, in Carmel, Indiana.
In 1948, Adios was bought by harness racing driver Delvin Miller to stand in stud at his Meadow Lands farm near Washington, Pennsylvania.

This theory has gained recognition over the years as some great racehorses appear on face value to have gained their outstanding gene pool from being line or in bred to certain great horses in their pedigree.
It is not unreasonable to assume that many mares will only throw to their one good genetic source once in their stud career unless they are mated with a stallion that is compatible or enhances their own genetic makeup and encourages the chance of inheriting her excellent X Chromosome source.
This is where the Sire is vitally important as his X Chromosome carrying the performance traits may be dominant over the mares X Chromosome in the case of a filly, thus producing in some cases a poorer and in some cases a better quality progeny.

Her three-year-old earnings were more than double those of the leading three-year-old pacing colt that year and the most of any three-year-old pacer, colt or filly, in the history of harness racing at that time.
Countess Adios' versatility was evident by the fact that she competed at stakes calibre on both gaits.
After five seasons of racing Countess Adios retired from the racetrack in 1963 as the second richest mare ever with $317,158 on both gaits.

 Pedigree Matching Breeding Theory
Matings are commonly described in terms of being Meadow Skipper 3 x 4 x 3, or Adios 5 x 4 x 4 x 5, a nomenclature which serves as much to confuse as it does to edify.
Pedigree matching presents an opportunity to improve on the bloodlines of a sire where he may be perceived to be deficient, that is in his maternal line, by returning to him bloodlines from a mare of similar lineage that have shown themselves to be genetically stronger through performance.
For instance in the case of Hazleton Kay (Jate Lobell - Season Premiere - Niatross) few would disagree that as a racehorse Niatross, the sire of the dam, was a superior performer to JR Amy, the dam of the sire Jate Lobell, yet Niatross and JR Amy trace to the same lineage.

In the first elim, Georgia Pacific roared to a 1:50 Adios and track record, and tied the world record (held by Gallo Blue Chip) for a sophomore gelding pacer on a five-eighths-mile track.
