The Admiral's Men, or the Lord Admiral's Men, was a theatre company first patronized by Charles Howard, 2nd Baron Howard of Effingham.
The company acted first at court between 1576 and 1579 under the name of Lord Howard's Men, after which the next mention of the company is as the Admiral's Men after Howard's appointment as Lord High Admiral in 1585.
The Rose, and subsequently the Admiral's Men, were managed by Philip Henslowe, a London entrepreneur and the most famous of Elizabethan theatre managers.

The fishing admirals were given authority to hear and determine controversies between the masters of fishing ships and the inhabitants or any byeboat keeper concerning the right and property of fishing rooms, stages, flakes or any other buildings or convenience for fishing or curing fish.
The admirals were men who were employed in the fishing and often did not attend to their judicial duties.
When Admiral Milbanke in 1789 was setting out for Newfoundland on his first trip, he was advised by his secretary to create a court of common pleas with regular judges instead of justices of the peace, and he did appoint such a court which transacted business.

Their major task was simply to carry armed men to a designated landing point and unload them.
The victory over the Armada was to make Sir Francis Drake a very famous man. The victory was even remembered at Christmas when Elizabeth ordered that everybody should have goose on Christmas Day as that was the meal she had eaten on the evening that she learned that her navy had beaten the Armada.
