Admiral is the rank, or part of the name of the ranks, of the highest naval officers.
The word Admiral has today come to be almost exclusively associated with the highest naval rank in most of the world's navies, equivalent to the Army rank of (Full) General.
Admiral of the Navy was only ever held by one U.S. officer; in 1945, the U.S. Navy considered creating the equivalent rank of Flag Admiral, but nothing came of the proposal.

Admiral Benelux (ABNL) is the position (not a rank) of the officer who holds operational command of the combined Netherlands and Belgian fleets for operational and training purposes under an arrangement set up in 1996.
There are currently only three copies of the flag of Admiral Benelux, which is used only on the land grounds of the "Admiralty", located in Den Helder, on the northernmost part of the province of North-Holland.
The Belgian Flotilla Admiral J. Rosiers proposed for Admiral Benelux a flag which was not accepted.

Rear Admiral Sherman's ships sent in a large flight of planes, and although unfavorable weather prevented inflicting as much damage as on the prior raid, hits were scored on Japanese destroyers outside the harbor.
Carrier task groups, under Rear Admirals C. Pownall and A. Montgomery, attacked enemy air bases in the Marshalls on 4 December, the main attack being directed against the atoll of Kwajalein, where enemy naval and merchant vessels, aircraft and shore installations were heavily struck with torpedoes and bombs.

Since the Kingdom of the Netherlands was established in 1815, there have only been two Admirals (of the fleet).

In February Conrad E. Helfrich, Royal Netherlands Navy, replaced General Wavell as the supreme allied commander of the ABDA forces in the Indies; and the Dutch rear admiral, Karel W. Doorman was named to replace Admiral Hart as commander of the ABDA warships.
Admiral Hart was ordered by Admiral King (meaning of course, President Roosevelt) to disband the Asiatic Fleet and to return to the United States.
Admiral Hart was flown out to Australia, from where he then returned to the United States for re-assignment.

Karel Willem Frederick Marie Doorman was born on April 23rd, 1889, at Utrecht and entered the Royal Netherlands Naval College in Den Helder at the age of 17.
From August 17th, 1938 until May 16th, 1940, he was in command of the Royal Netherlands Naval Air Service in the East Indies, while on the latter date he was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral and appointed commander of the Netherlands Squadron in the East.
Considering Doorman had earned his wings as a young officer and had a very close connection with the naval air service, he can undoubtedly be qualified as being "air-minded" and must have been aware of the importance of an adequate air reconnaissance.
