LiveMotion, the "Flash-killer" application long rumored to be in the works at Adobe, features an interface that is almost identical to Adobe ImageStyler, a Web tool for business graphics that has also gained some fans among professional Web designers.
Though Adobe has long been considered a critic of Macromedia's Flash technology -- it is a driving force behind Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG), an alternative file format for vector graphics on the Web -- the company's attitude toward Flash has subtly shifted at Seybold.
Via LiveMotion's timeline window, you can choose which attributes of an object to animate, then alter the object's attributes as you move an animation slider across the timeline.

LiveMotion offers plenty of good features and the familiar Adobe interface, but there are some limitations that are important to consider if you're a newcomer to web animation.
Adobe has introduced LiveMotion 1, a web animation tool that produces SWF format (Flash) movies and offers an authoring environment similar to After Effects.
I think LiveMotion 1 is a great start, and with the current $99 special they have running for owners of other Adobe or Macromedia programs, it's an inexpensive way to get introduced to vector-based web animation, if you haven't tried it before.

With Flash 5 (which is at the time of writing in beta only), Macromedia appears to have attempted to further bridge the gap between its original primitive proprietary functionality (in its previous life as FutureSplash) and the overall Macromedia interface; this gap has in the past often impeded usability and defied intuition.
Flash movies are playable by any Web browser with Flash player installed, which, according to Macromedia, is 92 percent of the online population.
