Adobe RGB can still clip some very saturated yellows but does cover all the greens, and green is a very important color being in the middle of the visual spectrum and very prevalent in nature.
Just as Adobe RGB and sRGB contain the same number of colors as dictated by the limitations of how they are represented in 8-bit and 16-bit mode, ProPhoto too has to live within what the numbers are capable of.

The term "color management" denotes the process of standardizing the relationship between the numeric data in digital image files and the colors output from monitors and printers, or measured by scanners and digital cameras.
A properly color managed workflow (the process that lies between pressing the shutter button and removing the print from the printer) can be difficult to set up, but the dividends reaped in time saved, less waste of paper and ink, and general frustration can be enormous.
The practical result of all this is that a color space with a gamma of 1.0 would be able to describe shadows and dark colors with a much greater degree of precision than light colors and highlights.

It is therefore routine for a working space to contain a lot of colors that couldn't possibly be printed by any printer, now or in the future, and for a printer's gamut to contain fewer, but still a lot of colors that don't fit into the working space (unless it's a huge one).
Dye gamuts tend to be superior in the darker colors and pigments tend to be better in the lighter colors, but the K3 gamut is so big that it does rather well even in the darker colors, though still not quite as well there as the Light Jet.
Adobe RGB is famously said to have been created accidentally by combining two existing television gamuts into one working space: the red and blue of PAL/SECAM and the green of NTSC (1953), from which it is indeed made.

I have heard the rumor that the green primary for Adobe RGB came about by the accidental use of the NTSC green primary, used incorrectly since NTSC is defined relative to Illuminant C while Adobe RGB is defined relative to D65.
Since the ICC specification and Adobe Photoshop both use a reference white of D50, the working space primaries that are specified relative to some other reference white must first be adapted to D50 before they may be used in a D50 environment, or be meaningfully compared with one another.

Adobe has recently developed another color space called Adobe Wide Gamut RGB, which is even larger, in detriment of gamut density.
As of 2004, sRGB is by far the most commonly used RGB color space, particularly in consumer grade digital cameras, because it is considered adequate for most consumer applications, and its design simplifies previewing on the typical computer display.

Several months ago, I was in the process of adding better color management for an open source rendering and simulation package.
Most people when writing their first ray tracer (in school or elsewhere) usually represent their colors as RGB without giving too much thought to which specific RGB color space (or even if the color space they are using is linear or non-linear).
ROMM RGB was developed by Eastman Kodak, however I believe the name ProPhotoRGB is used because of the friendliness of the name (I guess ROMM RGB just doesn't have the same "pro" ring to it).
