Adolf Ehrnrooth was the 20th full general of the Finnish Army, and the seventh general in his extended family.
Adolf Ehrnrooth's forefathers were of Baltic-German stock, and were elevated to the nobility already in the late 17th century.
Adolf Ehrnrooth's funeral will be held at Helsinki's Lutheran Cathedral on March 13, the anniversary of the end of the Winter War.

Ehrnrooth's funeral was the most stunning that Finland has seen since that of former President Urho Kekkonen in 1986.
Two incidents added to the human aspect of the funeral: one of the members of the honour guard fainted at the altar, and the muffled sound of the ringing of a mobile phone could be heard at one point.
