Topic: Adonizedek

  Jebusite
When the Israelites arrived in Canaan around 1200 BC the Jebusites were ruled by a king named Adonizedek (Joshua 10:1,23), whose name, according to the midrash means "master of Zedek" or Jerusalem.
Adonizedek participated in a coalition of kings from the neighboring cities of Jarmut, Lachish, Eglon and Hebron against Israel.
Despite the death of Adonizedek, the Jebusites remained well established in Jebus itself, although their role in Canaan was significantly reduced.

Adonizedek - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Adonizedek (variously transliterated as Adoni-zedec or Adoni-Zedek (in Hebrew, Adoni-Tzedek) was, according to the Book of Joshua, king of Jerusalem at the time of the Israelite invasion of Canaan (Josh.
The author of this article for the Easton's Bible Dictionary states that amongst the Amarna letters are some letters from Adonizedek to the Pharaoh of Egypt, which add to the history recorded in Josh.
However, the only king of Jerusalem mentioned in this archive is one `Abdi-Heba (whose name translates as "servant of Heba"), who is said to have succeeded Lab'ayu.

 13. Victory at Gibeon   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
In Adonizedek’s determination to slay the Gibeonites we have adumbrated the inveterate enmity of the serpent against the Redeemer’s "seed" Previously, while Satan keepeth his palace, "his goods are in peace" (Luke 11:21), but when he loses any of his captives, his rage against them knows no bounds.
Not only was Adonizedek unwilling to humble himself and make peace with Joshua, but he was determined that none of his near neighbors should do so, and in his persuading them to follow his policy we have a sad instance of a strong character being able to influence others to evil.
Adonizedek’s "Come up unto me, and help me" is to be understood in the light of "that we may smite Gibeon," thereby signifying that it was a duty devolving equally upon all of them.

 The Saga of Jerusalem
Adonizedek was an Amorite-Canaanite king known by the synonym, “the Lord of justice.” The prefix of Adonizedek’s name Adoni or Adonai (Greek Adonis) are also the Hebrew words for Christ, or the Lord.
Adonizedek was obviously a king associated with the Satanic conspiracy to supplant the royal lineage of Melchizedek that would ultimately end with Jesus Christ reigning in the city of Jerusalem.
Just as Satan marshaled the realm of Adonizedek to oppose the Israelites from ever gaining possession of the city of Jerusalem 3000 years ago, Satan today is once again marshaling his princely rulers to deny the city to Israel.

Adonizedek: the Amorite king of Jerusalem who organized a league with four other Amorite princes against Joshua.
The confederate kings having laid siege to Gibeon, Joshua marched to the relief of his new allies and put the besiegers to flight.
The five kings took refuge in a cave at Makkedah, whence they were taken and slain, their bodies hung on trees, and then buried in the place of their concealment.

The Defeat of the Amorites during Joshua's "long day"   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-28)
Adonizedek, the king of Jerusalem, is not happy with the treaty the Gibeonites made with the Israelites.
His name (meaning "Lord of Righteousness") is probably a title (like Pharaoh), perhaps passed down from the days of the Priest-King Melchizedek ("King of Righteousness," Hebrews 7:1-4), who appears to have been king of the same city in the days of Abraham (Genesis 14:18-20).
The similarity ends there, as Melchizedek was actually the preincarnate Jesus Christ while Adonizedek, Israel's enemy, was certainly not a true servant of God.

 Who is Melchizedek
Jerusalem's king during the Israelite invasion of Canaan had a similar name of Adonizedek.
Joshua 10:1 Now Adoni-Zedek king of Jerusalem heard that Joshua had taken Ai and totally destroyed it, doing to Ai and its king as he had done to Jericho and its king, and that the people of Gibeon had made a treaty of peace with Israel and were living near them.
Adonizedek translates to "lord of Zedek", as we have previously stated zedek means righteousness, therefore Adonizedek also means Lord or King of Righteousness, and there is every probability the Adonizedek and Mechilzedek may be one and the same.

This king of Jerusalem, unlike his famous predecessor, Melchizedek, the king of Salem (Salem here being understood as an earlier name for Jerusalem), was an evil man. And like every wicked man, he was utterly blind to the presence and purpose of God which promulgated the invasion of Canaan.
Not only had the victories of Israel at Jordan and Ai demonstrated the need for this fear, there was the additional fact that Gibeon, a powerful city, with some of the most magnificent fighting men of ancient history enrolled among them, had defected to Israel and was now an ally of the invaders.
Note too that it is not recorded that Jerusalem was destroyed, despite the fact that Adonizedek was the leader of the anti-Israelite coalition.
