Coast - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Coast is a very specific term and is only applied to that part of an island or continent that borders an ocean or its saltwater tributaries.
The coast and its adjacent areas on and off shore is an important part of a local ecosystem as the mixture of fresh water and salt water in estuaries provides many nutrients for marine life.
Coasts are popular destinations because of recreational activities such as swimming, fishing, surfing, boating, and sun bathing.

 Croatian adriatic
The Adriatic Sea is a bay of the Mediterranean Sea, separated by the Apennine Peninsula.
The northwestern Adriatic is shallow with a floor of sand and silt and depths generally under 100 meters.
Gentle winters, dry and hot summers caused growth of the exuberant Mediterranean evergreen vegetation of the coast: slender cypresses, aromatic laurels, blooming oleanders, graceful tamarisks, strange aloes and flowering agaves, magnificent sunny-yellow mimosas, mellow oranges, tangerines and lemons, almonds, fragrant pines: and the symbol of the coast- the olive tree and the wondrous fig tree.

As shown, Bora - Adriatic Sea flow is generally confined to the Adriatic Sea area, as the Alps to the north, and the Apennines to the west, channel the flow southwestward.
Some parts of the coast (including the islands of Lošinj and Hrvar) are protected from the winter bora by chains of mountains on whose lee side the climate is mild.
In the southern parts of the Adriatic coast, from Dubrovnik to Ulcinj, the bora is moderate and the climate genial.

The cradle of Croatian vernacular literature and culture was on the Adriatic coast where the Slavic tribes settled down next to the preserved Roman population in the seventh century, creating a Roman-Slavic symbiosis in subsequent centuries.
Thus, the Roman-Slavic inhabitants of the eastern Adriatic coast came to belong to the narrowest common area of Roman-Italian civilization, that is, Italian peninsula.
The independent city-states, villages, and islands of the eastern Adriatic coast (Dalmatia, the Croatian Littoral, Istria, at the head of which was the Republic of Dubrovnik) displayed a social and economical structure similar to that of Italy, where after centuries of economic stagnation in early Middle Ages there was a boom in manufacture and trade.

Also, based on the results of the Greece Marine Turtles Tagging Project carried out at the Zakynthos bay and west coast of Peloponesus, from the 34 recaptured specimens of total post-nesting tagged females, 17 were recorded in the Golf of Gabes (Tunisia), and 6 in the Adriatic Sea (MARGARITOULIS, 1988).
Although the activity of animals in that period is still unknown, such high number of incidental catch of marine turtles during the winter by trawlers indicate the possibility of existence of overwintering areas in the eastern part of the Adriatic Sea.

Since we had only two weeks to get to know Croatia’s 200-mile long Dalmatian Coast, we focused on the southern half from medieval Dubrovnik north to ancient Split, a stretch particularly noted for warm waters, consistent sailing winds, and scores of beautifully wooded islands.
There couldn’t have been a better place to start our explorations of Dalmatia than the walled town that’s been coined the Adriatic’s "Crown Jewel." We entered Dubrovnik through Pile Gate and were bowled over by the wide marbled pedestrian boulevard, Placa, and the spouting 15th-century Onofrio Fountain.
