Gurmai said the motorway will span the continent from Gdansk on the Baltic Sea to Ploce on the Adriatic, crossing five countries by 2010.
The European Parliament's committee for transport has approved plans under which the North-South European transport corridor, leading to the Adriatic Sea from Poland, would cross Hungary, Hungarian observer Zita Gurmai, said.
The decision means that the section of the road from Zilina (Slovakia) to Ivándárda (on the Hungarian-Croatian border) could be funded in part from European funds.

Croatia has started work on its section of a highway that is to link Budapest with the Adriatic port of Ploce via Bosnia, the government said on Friday.
