In 2001, he was elected to the National Parliament of Italy as an independent candidate, a mandate he abandoned in June 2003 when he won the regional elections and became the President of the Region of Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
He was directly elected as an independent candidate and leads a centre-left coalition government. ·      Adrien Zeller, 64, UDF, President of the Regional Council of Alsace (F): re-elected Vice-President Agricultural scientist and economist, Adrien Zeller began his professional career as the principal administrator  (agricultural and regional policies) for the European Commission (1967-1973).
Adrien Zeller has other political responsibilities such as President of the French Decentralisation Institute and Member of the National Conference of Spatial Planning (CNADT) and the Association of the Regions of France (ARF).

Hipsheim, France, Aug. 13 (UPI) -- France's willingness to tolerate expressions of Nazism has left residents of its German-speaking region increasingly troubled by episodes of anti-Semitism.
Adrien Zeller, the president of Alsace's regional government, said besides the rising vandalism the area sees one or two neo-Nazi rallies each year.
Most of this year's neo-Nazi incidents have taken place in Alsace and at least two of the latest grave desecrations in the region have been signed "HVE Junior," an apparent reference to a new generation of Nazi sympathizers.
