| | Prospective Students: Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner |
 | | This focal area within the Department of Biobehavioral Nursing and Health Systems and the Master of Nursing program prepares adult acute care nurse practitioners (AACNPs) to provide advanced practice nursing care to adults with cardiopulmonary and neurological problems, or with cancer or HIV/AIDS. |
 | | The program, requiring a minimum of 18 months of study, consists of advanced clinical practice and nursing science built on a core of intensive physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacology. |
 | | AACNPs are prepared to conduct comprehensive health assessments, appraise health risks, order and interpret diagnostic tests, diagnose and manage commonly occurring health problems and disease-related symptoms, prescribe and evaluate drugs and other treatments, coordinate care during transitions in settings, and provide guidance and counseling to restore, promote and maintain health and quality of life. |
