Adventure Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Adventure Comics is a comic book series published by DC Comics from 1935 to 1983.
Adventure Comics began its nearly 50-year run in 1935 under the title New Comics, which was only the second comic book series published by National Allied Publications, now DC Comics.
The last decade of Adventure starred a variety of characters, and features, including Aquaman, a new Starman, "Dial H for Hero" and the Justice Society of America.

 Profiles 47 - Adventure Comics (Dec 2001)
Adventure strips reached into homes in ways we do not expect the modern comic book to do, owing to a diametrically opposed theory of distribution; they attached to a product consumed by almost every household (newspapers).
Comics, as understood today, originated as a by-product of a circulation war between Pulitzer and Hearst newspapers attempting to move copy via various types of features that would draw the eye of consumers.
Cross fertilize the newspaper adventure strip, in comic-book form, with the material of pulps, and, perhaps, enhance it a bit to capitalize on the opportunities of the drawn rather than the prose medium, and one has what became the first superheroes.

More Fun Comics - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
More Fun Comics was a DC Comics title which began as New Fun Comics in February 1935 and changed to More Fun with its seventh issue.
It was the first comic publication to feature solely original material rather than reprints of newspaper comic strips, and the first such magazine published by the company that would become DC Comics.
Beginning with #7 (January 1936), the title was changed to More Fun Comics, with the magazine featuring primarily adventure stories and, after the advent of Superman in the same company's Action Comics in 1938, superhero stories.

Adventure Comics #503 dated September 1983 was truly the end of an era, and had it not been discontinued would have been DC's longest published title.
And yet the influence of Adventure can still be seen, even in small ways, since DC's anthology title of animation style all-ages stories, Adventures in the DC Universe, makes use of the old logo in its design.

I was hooked, and every month for the next four years, I would eagerly await the next issue of Adventure and the next chapter in the saga of the Superboy and the Legion.
I knew very little about the earlier issues of Adventure, and although I managed to come across a tattered copy of Adventure #312, it wasn't until my interest in comics was rekindled in the late 1970's that I extended my collection of Adventure's back to about 1959.

First Appearance of the Silver Age Luthor - Captain Comics Round Table   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-20)
Wizard is claiming that Adventure #271 is the first appearance of the Silver Age Luthor as it was the first time Luthor was shown to have been Superboy's pal in Smallville, as opposed to the Golden Age Luthor, who as I recall it, was a troublemaker from Europe who met Supes as an adult.
The cover story for Adventure Comics # 271 (Apr., 1960) is "How Luthor Met Superboy", and it presents for the first time the familiar events of Luthor's early boyhood friendship with Superboy and the incident which resulted in the loss of Luthor's hair and the artificial life form which he had created.
The first story of Adventure Comics #271 reveals that Luthor is approximately the same age as Superboy, so this story is anachronistic.
