This game is supposed to be light-hearted, and it is not trying to be on par with any episode or book.

Most of the LucasArt games were made with the SCUMM language.
If you want to actually program a game just about any language would do; there's typically nothing particularly intensive going on with the style of game you're interested in, so whatever language you were comfortable with would be fine.

Usually in these games, text or graphical, you have a limited set of actions to perform playing a character, thus a role in a story, changing the environment where your character plays by collecting a set of items and interacting these items with the environment.
It is called Adventure because you would not normally be restricted to a room during the entire story; your character would need to move from different places and complete a quest.
The main difference between the adventure genre and Role Playing Games is that while adventures are focused on the flow of the story, Role Playing Games also focus on the improvement of characters.

Rather than just downloading dozens of games in hopes of finding some good ones, I suggest that you check out Baf's Guide to the Interactive Fiction Archive, which includes reviews of many dozens oftext adventure games, including many AGT games.
Robert Masenten has developed a "Universal" or "Portable" adventure game run-time system, written in the C programming language, which he says should be able to run any AGT games.
