AdventureSoft - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
AdventureSoft is a UK-based video game developer which was established in the 1980s by Mike Woodroffe, then owner of Callisto Computers, one of the very early computer shops.
AdventureSoft signed deals that gave it access to the Fighting Fantasy Game Books by Steve Jackson(UK) and Ian Livingstone, as well as a new more sophisticated game system.
The first fruits of this deal were "Seas Of Blood" by Michael Woodroffe and Alan Cox, followed by Stefan Ufnowski's Rebel Planet.

The Tower of Pin - Reviews (Simon the Sorcerer Pinball)
Adventuresoft, the good old company that created the adventure game Simon the Sorcerer (which I must add is quite good too!) back when the Amiga was one of the bigger names in the personal computer world, a sequel to the first simon title has since been released and a third (in 3D) is undergoing development.
Adventuresoft has now released a pinball based on their simon the sorcerer games.
Adventuresoft developed this pinball together with a third party that wanted to be anonymous (adventuresoft basicly used the third partys engine and did all the graphics and stuff themselves).

Adventure Gamers : Simon the Sorcerer 3D
It turns out Adventuresoft had planned a third 2D style game, but plans were soon dropped after only a few test renders as it was decided that not even God himself would be able to come to earth and get a 2D adventure game published (their words, not mine).
Adventuresoft was having a lot of problems getting the game published, and my expectations were becoming more and more tarnished with every update.
Adventuresoft added gaming elements to the new 3D terrain that were not consistent with traditional point and click style.

Adventure Gamers : Top 20 Adventure Games of All-Time!!1!
Once upon a time, a company named Adventuresoft released a game called Simon the Sorcerer, which was about a young boy named Simon who was thrust into a parallel universe where magic ruled instead of science.
Adventuresoft soon created a sequel to this horrible game, aptly named Simon the Sorcerer 2.
Adventuresoft obviously wanted this lesson to be made clear, so they made it very easy for Simon to crash into every tree, bush, fence, and house in the game world, as well as the occasional NPC.

It was during the hiatus of swapping my floppy disk version for the CD upgrade that I stopped playing (not much choice, really) and never got back to it.
How Adventuresoft got away with some of the jokes directed at this thinly-disguised, well known fast food firm is beyond me. I laughed like a drain.
Or by looking at the solution (yes, I admit it!) Adventuresoft's brand of humour may not appeal to all; the not-politically correct sequence featuring Um Bongo springs to mind.

Lemon Amiga - Amiga games, Amiga reviews, retro games, classic games, Commodore, roms, adf, download
AdventureSoft are that odd example of a games company, a company that hits upon one idea/game, likes it, makes an entire franchise spiralling out of said idea/game, and ends up solely producing and publishing games based on their established franchise.
One would think that AdventureSoft might consider producing more original games in order to keep afloat, and make their name as a games company.
Like most of the best games ever produced for the Amiga (and, er, every other system, come to think of it), Simon the Sorcerer is a point-and-click adventure, and so therefore we all know what it's going to involve.

Amiga reviews: Simon the Sorcerer 1
Not only must he rescue the good wizard Calypso from the evil clutches of Sordid the Sorceror, but along the way Simon must complete a number of mini-quests: finding the staff of Nafflin the Necromancer for example and making a magical axehead for a melancholy woodcutter so he can chop down rubber trees.
Adventuresoft have created a weird and wonderful land, where fairy tale, classic fantasy and comedy mix together in twisted but totally recognisable forms.
Okay, I admit some of the voices are a bit dodgy but on the whole Adventuresoft have done a damned good job.

Review - Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth // Xbox /// Eurogamer
Rancid putrefaction, a loose grip on sanity, and a malevolent cast of abject weirdoes were just a few of the ingredients you could expect from your average bit of HP sauce - a point certainly not lost on Brummie studio Headfirst in its long-delayed horror adventure title, Call of Cthulhu.
The Headfirst mob is certainly a team with a fair bit of narrative-laced adventure heritage, too, boasting none other than Adventuresoft veteran Mike Woodroffe at the helm.
Goodness knows how many hours we've sunk into the dozens of Adventuresoft titles down the years.

Mike has hosted me at his offices in Birmingham and I was impressed by his dedication to adventuring in general -- all of which I said in an article last year.
I feel pretty bad saying this because Adventuresoft are a good bunch, but really we've got to come clean here.
Come on Adventuresoft -- you've got the talents if you want to use them -- have a bit more confidence in your own ideas, stop wasting money on licenses, spend it on game development and start winning customers instead of trying to buy them.

The pinball was interestingly enough developed by Adventuresoft together with a third party company that asked to be anonymous.
The third party provided Adventuresoft with the engine that they based the pinball on.
If I were to make a wild guess (that I suppose might be wrong) I would guess that the third party company was in some way Pin-Ball Games Ltd. (who have released such mediocre pinballs as Soccer '98 and Judge Dredd Pinball).

AdventureSoft used to be an independant publisher, but the directors realized that in the current state of the games market, it is not possible for a small publisher to exist.

Probably not - the market hasn't changed, so it's still impossible for a small independant publisher to exist amongst the likes of Eidos and Infogrames.
