Tron (film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Tron is a 1982 Walt Disney Productions science fiction film starring Jeff Bridges as Kevin Flynn (and his counterpart inside the electronic world, Clu), Bruce Boxleitner as Alan Bradley (and Tron), Cindy Morgan as Lora Baines (and Yori) and Dan Shor as Ram.
The character Tron plays a martyr-type, who "battles for the Users." When a User himself (Flynn) is dropped in to the environment, and found to be a User, he assumes the role of a Messiah-type of character, who can perform what seems like miracles to other programs.
Tron was mentioned in The Simpsons in Treehouse of Horror VI.

Adventures of TRON was based on the Walt Disney motion picture TRON, and was programmed by APh for Mattel.
Originally it was meant to be an Atari 2600 version of the Intellivision game TRON Maze-A-Tron, but by the time the game was completed it had changed so much that Mattel gave it a different title.
In addition to being sold separately, Adventures of TRON was also packaged with TRON: Deadly Discs and a special blue TRON joystick.

Rebooting Tron 1.0 by Anthony Leong from MediaCircus.net
For a generation of moviegoers, who were only beginning to explore the opportunities of consumer-focused computing technology, "Tron" became one of the more memorable genre films of 1982, alongside "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan", "The Thing", and the other 'cyberpunk' film of the year, "Blade Runner".
Scheduled to be included on the DVD re-release (the prior "Tron" DVD was released in 1998) are four hours of commentary by Lisberger, an extensive documentary on the making of the film, and a love scene that was cut out from the theatrical release.
Set once again in the "Tron" universe, this new game is being planned as a first-person perspective actioner (similar to "Half-Life") with the capability of supporting on-line gameplay.

“The Tron world is stylistic, based on sensibilities inherent in the electronic cliché,” notes designer Syd Mead, who worked on both the original Tron film and the new Tron 2.0 game, out on the Mac from MacPlay.
“Tron lay dormant for 20 years after the release of the movie,” explains Cliff Kamida, executive producer of the game for Buena Vista Interactive, “so we felt pretty free to do what we wanted.
Tron 2.0 retains the look and feel of the film’s environment, courtesy of the “glow effect” developed by graphic card maker Nvidia, but also introduces many of the technological advances of the past 20 years.

GameMethod.com: TRON 2.0: Killer App (Xbox) Review   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-11-01)
While TRON 2.0: Killer App remains a compelling experience, it unfortunately takes on a few faults in the transition from PC to Xbox; moreover, the added online features aren’t enough to counteract these deficiencies, setting the game inferior to its PC counterpart.
One of the first motion pictures to utilize CGI, TRON followed the adventures of programmer Kevin Flynn as he battled against the Master Control Program (MCP) inside a computer system, in the hope of saving his company, Encom.
TRON 2.0: Killer App picks up twenty years later as Flynn’s associate and personal friend, Alan Bradley, completes work on the algorithms necessary to digitize a person into a computer.

Unlike the Xbox version, TRON 2.0 for the GBA is not a port of last year's PC hit.
Rather, it is something of a sequel, chronicling the adventures of Tron and Mercury as the two warriors fend off yet another attack on the ENCOM system.
Split into two concurrent adventures, the game lets players adventure through the system as Tron and then experience things from the other side as Mercury (or vice versa).

In TRON Deadly Discs, you are Tron, a lone video game warrior pitted against three other enemies with much greater armament.
By throwing your disc at certain portions of the arena wall and changing them to the same color as your on-screen character, you can make tunnels for yourself - not unlike the side tunnels in Pac-Man - handy for escape or ambush.
Though formatted like one of the numerous platform adventure games that would one day become associated with Mario, Adventures of Tron, while quite challenging, is frustrating since there seems to be no actual goal to reach.

IGN: First Screens of Capcom's New Legends
The Japanese working title "Tron Ni Kobun," translating roughly to "Tron and the Servebots," looks to be a bizarre side-story to Mega Man Legends (Rockman Dash in Japan), and has no release date as of yet, according to Capcom's Japanese website.
Instead, apparently Tron Bonne, the 14-year-old mechanical wiz-kid from Mega Man Legends, has taken on a larger role in this strange spin-off from the Mega Man Legends title.
The game's title and these shots indicate that the game is entirely focused on Tron and her adventures, making Tron Ni Kobun a kind of side-story of the Legend series, although clearly using the same engine, mechanics and backgrounds.
