Aero Spacelines, Inc. was an aircraft manufacturer that made a name for itself by converting Boeing B-377 Stratocruisers into the famous Guppy line of aircraft.
Aero Spacelines was taken over by Unexcelled Corporation in 1967, which later changed hands and went out of business.
Aero Spacelines proved that outsize cargo aircraft were a viable and economical alternative to other methods of transporting outsize cargo.

The Super Guppy is only one of the Guppy line of aircraft produced by Aero Spacelines, Inc., and was the successor to the Pregnant Guppy, the first of the Guppy aircraft.

The Mini Guppy is only one of the Guppy line of aircraft produced by Aero Spacelines, Inc..
This enabled Aero Spacelines to widen the Mini Guppy cargo bay floor to 13', as opposed to the 8' restriction imposed when building directly onto a B-377 fuselage.
The Mini Guppy first flew on May 24, 1967, and Aero Spacelines operated it until 1974, when it was sold to American Jet Industries.

In 1965, Conroy relocated Aero Spacelines from Van Nuys to Santa Barbara.

Lee Mansdorf, an aircraft salesman and entrepeneur, came up with the idea for what was to become the Pregnant Guppy over dinner.
The Aero Spacelines B-377PG Pregnant Guppy was flown to Dryden for tests and evaluation by pilots Joe Vensel and Stan Butchart in October 1962.
The outsized cargo aircraft incorporated the wings, engines, lower fuselage and tail from a Boeing 377 Stratocruiser with a huge upper fuselage more than 20 feet in diameter.

Among the difficulties facing the Apollo program in the 1960s and early 1970s was how to move large rocket stages from the contractor facilities where they were built to the launch pads in Florida.
In 1961, John M. Conroy of Aero Spacelines, Inc., proposed modifying a Boeing Stratocruiser airliner with a bulging fuselage.
Despite the ungainly appearance of the "Pregnant Guppy" as it came to be called and despite Conroy's nearly running out of cash and credit during the conversion, the project was successful.

In 1962 On Mark undertook the conversion of a Boeing Stratocruiser on behalf of Aero Spacelines, Inc. The aircraft would become known as the B-377PG Pregnant Guppy.
In 1965 On Mark undertook the conversion of a Boeing C-97J on behalf of Aero Spacelines, Inc. The aircraft would become known as the B-377SG Super Guppy.
This hanger was torn down in the mid 1980's, one of its last use being the filming of Firefox starring Clint Eastwood.

Sold to Lee Mansdorf and later to Aero Spacelines, Inc. (ASI).
ASI kept the original NAL colors but added the Aero Spacelines name to the sides of the fuselage and used it for public relations in the Guppy program.
The title "King of the Second-hand Stratocruisers" must surely go to Aero Spacelines who laid claim to no fewer than 27 of the many B-377/C-97s produced.

The first piece of the Apollo 4 to arrive at the Kennedy Space Center was the third stage.
This was built by Douglas Aircraft Company and was small enough to be transported by plane, though it was no ordinary plane, being an Aero Spacelines, Inc. Pregnant Guppy.
The other stages were much larger and had to travel by barge, with the first stage arriving next from Boeing Company at Michoud, Louisiana along the Banana River.
