Affectional orientation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Affectional orientation is an alternative term for sexual orientation.
To holders of this view, one's orientation is defined by whom one is predisposed to fall in love with, sexual attraction being only a part of a larger dynamic.
The terms used for different affectional orientations are typically the same as are used for sexual orientations: homosexual, bisexual or heterosexual.

 Affectional Orientation and Gender Identity
Affectional orientation seems to be about evenly divided among male-to-female transsexuals before transition, although again there is some variation in estimates.
Although gender identity is a separate issue from affectional orientation, it is not possible to examine the gender question without setting the stage for examining the orientation question.
As a transsexual, I'd prefer to see this stated as an orientation for men or women; either of these orientations can be stated by either a man or a woman--or by a person whose presentation is male or female, regardless of underlying gender issues.

For a consideration of these and similar problems, which depend ultimately on the degree in which the affections are regarded as voluntary, see H.
In the first, all affection phenomena are primarily divisible into those which are pleasurable and those which are the reverse.
The main objections to this are that it does not explain the infinite variety of phenomena, and that it disregards the distinction which most philosophers admit between higher and lower pleasures.

The terms used for different affectional orientations are typically the same as are used for sexual orientations: gay, bisexual or straight.
There are also those who hold the view that their orientation is defined by who one has affection towards and that their sexual attraction is based on affection for another human being's personal qualities rather than their gender or appearence.
This does not neccesarily require either person to fall in love but is still based on a personal affection.

Same-sex affectional role models who hold hands, hug, and kiss in public are not sanctioned in the same way as are other-sex affectional behaviors when in public view (Mahoney, 1983).
This affectional unfamiliarity coupled with homophobia frequently leads to curiosity and questions about what gay men and lesbians do sexually, which is one of the least discussed aspects of homosexuality (Byer, et al., 1988).
The nine statements regarding same-sex affectional and sexual behavior were more acceptable to respondents on the post-test, while the one item on the other-sex affectional behavior was found to be less acceptable on the HBI post-test.

"Affectional orientation" is included along with "sexual orientation," in recognition of the many people with consistent, intense attraction to those of the same gender who nevertheless refrain from genital expression with those of the same gender or who even choose to express their sexuality in heterosexual patterns.
The affectional orientation of these individuals is same gender, however, one might best state that their sexual orientation is unknown, unexpressed or perhaps quite different from their affectional orientation.

While the author makes a few helpful attempts at addressing the sin of homophobia in youth groups, she continues to perpetuate the very harmful and remiss view that all gays and lesbians are sinners because of their sexual orientation and resulting desire for love and lifetime companionship.
With all the available biblical scholarship and what we've come to know about sexual orientation over the years, it's appalling that such ignorant attitudes about homosexuality are still alive and unwell.
There's still the awful "hate the sin, love the sinner" mentality at work here, which quite simply has too many seeds of hate in it to be of any use to anyone but the most bigoted of Christians.

LETTERS From CAMP Rehoboth - May 4, 2001 - Lavender Language
Literature, music, and the visual arts produced during this era are often encoded; this prompted the development of the modern queer theory movement, part of which attempts to understand the hidden content of these works.
Also employed are the terms ‘sexual preference, affectional preference, and affectional orientation.’ Whenever possible, modern ‘politically correct’ writers avoid terms that include ‘preference’ because of the implication that same-sex orientation is a choice, which is not the current theory.
Using ‘affectional’ instead of ‘sexual’ is also common to avoid the automatic association between same-sex relationships and sexual behavior.

 WorldNetDaily: A platform for pedophiles?
While pedophiles are stealthily included under any new "sexual orientation" law (see the American Psychiatric Association listing of myriad sexual orientations) "affectional" is well known as a term for pedophiles (child molesters) within the sexuality field.
We'll come back to "gay and lesbian families" later but the "age" and "sexual orientation" designations should warn vigilant citizens that "affectional" pedophile advocates, seeking to legitimize the group once known as child molesters, are well placed in the big welcoming Democratic Tent.
The covert political power of such sexual subversives often determines who is hired and fired, who gets scientific funding, whose story is reported or spiked, what laws are passed or locked in committee and whether police, prosecutors or judges find ways to aid predators or their victims.

Integrity/Toronto ~ Does the Bible say ANYTHING about Homosexuality?
It is not surprising that the Bible knows nothing about homosexuality (the innate affectional orientation a small proportion of humans have for members of their own sex).
The concept of sexual orientation, and with it homosexual orientation, came into parlance only in the late nineteenth century.
The Bible knows nothing of what we today mean by "homosexuality." It follows that it can have no concept at all of persons of same-sex affectional orientation living in mutual, equal, consensual relationships where "sexuality (serves) personal fulfilment in a community of faithful love" (Canon XXI, "On Marriage," Anglican Church of Canada).
