Topic: Afghan Civil War

Cold War - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Cold War (Russian: Холодная война Kholodnaya Voina) was the protracted geopolitical, ideological, and economic struggle that emerged after World War II between capitalism and communism, centering around the global superpowers of the Soviet Union and the United States, supported by their military alliance partners.
Instead, the "war" took the form of an arms race involving nuclear and conventional weapons, networks of military alliances, economic warfare and trade embargos, propaganda, espionage and proxy wars, especially those involving superpower support for opposing sides within civil wars.
The end of the Cold War did not resolve the problem of international control of nuclear energy, and it reemerged as a factor in the beginning of the Long War declared by the United States in 2006 as its official military doctrine.

 Bambooweb: Kurd
The ancient Kurdish community near Kabul, Afghanistan left the country during the Afghan Civil War in the late 1970s.
However, for various reasons including the siding of some Kurds with Iranian forces during the Iran-Iraq War in the 1980s, the regime became opposed to the Kurds and an effective civil war broke out.
During the period of self-governance there were armed clashes between the two main political groups in the area, each claiming the title of Kurdistan's government, which undermined the effectiveness of the Kurds in their fighting with the Iraqis.
