Afghania is another name that has slowly gained acceptance.
In fact, its proponents argue that Afghania was the name given to the NWFP by Chaudhry Rahmat Ali when he coined the word Pakistan.
The "a" in Pakistan was supposed to refer to Afghania just like "p" for Punjab, "k" for Kashmir, "s" for Sindh and "tan" for Balochistan.

Anyway, more than half of present day Pakistan (Pastan), in particular Afghania, Balochistan, Rojhan in Sindh and Dera Ismail and Dera Ghazi Khan in Punjab were hardly ever part of India until the British seized the territory and incorporated it as part of the British Indian Raj.
C.R.Ali wanted freedom for the five Muslim `Indian' homelands in North West India, namely Punjab, Afghania, Kashmir, Sindh and BalochistaN from British colonial rule, followed by their re-integration with the three Muslim `Asian' homelands of Afghanistan, Iran and Tukharistan.
P.A.K.I.S.T.A.N. was to form the eastern flank to the heartland of Islam, as it had been before it was broken up through infighting by the Mughals, Safavids and Afghans; and then by the colonial legacy of the McMahon, Durand and Goldsmid Borders.

This school of thought advocates re-drawing the province on linguistic basis, comprising the Pakhtun population of NWFP and Balochistan to be named as Pakhtunkhwa or Afghania to shed explicit identity of the Pakhtun inhabitants.

In 1933, Rahmat Ali proposed the name Pakistan ("Land of the Pure") which encompassed the Muslim territorial aspirations and Muslim majority areas: Punjab, Afghania (the NW Frontier), Kashmir, Sind, and Baluchistan.
In 1936, Muslims lost their political hold over U.P.; thus Muslims stopped campaigning for minority rights and started campaigning for a separate homeland where Muslims were the majority as espoused by the poet Muhammad Iqbal in 1930.
