Undisturbed forest is dominated by the GC Baikiaea insignis and the endemic Afrocarpus dawei.
The forest is evergreen with a two-layered canopy; the upper storey reaches 30m and the lower or under storey is seldom more than 15m in height, often lower.
In less disturbed forest Afrocarpus dawei and Baikiaea insignis dominate the upper canopy.
Podos = foot, and karpos = fruit (Greek), allude to the fruits of these trees being borne on fleshy stalks; falcatus = sickle-shaped (Latin) alludes to the leaves.
It must be noted some schools of thought regard this particular species as Afrocarpus falcatus.

and Afrocarpus gracilior (Pilger) C. Page was assessed in the Afromontane forests of Ethiopia.
Percent light transmission, litter depth and percentage cover of vegetation were assessed for seedling microsites in five sites with different levels and history of disturbance.
Consider shrubs or large foliage plants if height is not a real issue.
Use columnar-growing plants (such as Afrocarpus falcata or pole-trained vining aroids) for tall, narrow spaces and short, wide plants (Philodendron bipinnatifidum or Ficus deltoidea) for roomier quarters.
Think about layering plants in the fore-, middle-, and background.
