	Afsluitdijk - Wikipedia
		De Afsluitdijk sluit sinds 1932 het IJsselmeer (de voormalige Zuiderzee) af van de Waddenzee en loopt van Den Oever op het voormalige eiland Wieringen (Noord Holland) naar Zurich (Friesland).
		Omdat het voormalige eiland Wieringen in feite een grote keileembult is, die meters boven zeeniveau ligt, begon men voortvarend in de lengterichting van Wieringen, een kaarsrecht tracé voor de spoorlijn af te graven tot op het niveau van de beide afsluitdijken; dat keileem werd gebruikt om de Amsteldiepdijk mee aan te leggen.
		Volgens de Minister van Verkeer en Waterstaat Karla Peijs in 2006, is de Afsluitdijk na 75 jaar toe aan een grote opknapbeurt.

		It wouldn't be until September 25, 1933, that the Afsluitdijk was officially opened, with a monument marking the spot where the dike had been closed.
