	Richard Sussman Quintet :Free Fall
		The overall mood of Free Fall is lyrical, dark, intense, and imaginative, even though the moods between and within pieces can vary quite a bit.
		Certainly this album had a profound impact on the generation of musicians who would try to bring jazz back to where it was before Miles Davis recorded In A Silent Way and Bitches Brew at the close of the 1960s.
		But the album, originally released on the now-defunct Inner City label in 1978, was not reissued until 2001 when Jamey Aebersold's Double Time Records picked it up.

		The most surprising thing about Chan Marshall, the Southern-bred songstress who records alt-rock albums under the pseudonym Cat Power, is her ability to create a heavy mood with the most simple and minimalist of instrumentation.
		Although I'd never be able to play a song featured on Cat Power’s new album, You Are Free, with my limited musical skills, the LP stays as moody and deliciously gloomy as all of Marshall’s earlier releases on Matador Records.
		But the most striking track on You Are Free is the piano-driven anti-ballad “Names.” Cat Power revs up her most depressing wails for an ode to childhood friendships lost to rape, drugs and murder.

		I enjoy the entirety of Fermina, a subtle conceptual album that operates on more than just the "bash you over the head with heavy metal" level.

		After looking at the ugly front cover, I slipped the CD into the CD player, pressed play and waited...the albums starts out softly with strange noises, a bit World music like (you might have spotted this from), than a sad violin/cello, followed by a thunderstorm in the form of a heavy guitar.
		The melodies are as beautiful as ever, but be warned, that this album is not progressive rock a la Gravedigger or Innocence, but more New Age World music with a bit of Gandalf and a bit of Yanni.
