Early in "After the Sunset," the characters refer to Hitchcock's classic caper movie "To Catch a Thief." Big mistake, since "Thief" is fizzy, funny and sexy, and "After the Sunset" is not.
But the "After the Sunset" script is not as clever -- you'll guess the twist immediately -- or as amusing as the best caper movies ("Out of Sight," with George Clooney and Jennifer Lopez, is a great recent example, and "To Catch a Thief" and "Charade" are classics).
Compared to those stylish films, "After the Sunset" is bland and nearly personality-free.
