  AfterMASH Information
AfterMASH was a Sitcom that ran for two seasons (1983-1985) on CBS.
Sometimes this took the form of plot devices, such as the episode in which Klinger arranged Col. Potter's civilian office to look exactly as it had in Korea.
The only other regular character from the original series to appear on AfterMASH was Radar (Gary Burghoff), who appeared in a two-part episode shortly before the show's cancellation.

However, the series did not succeed in recapturing the feeling of the original, and was cancelled after thirty episodes were completed.
AfterMASH premiered in the fall of 1983 in the same time Monday night 9:00P.M. time slot as its predecessor M.A.S.H. It finished a very respectable number 15 out of all network shows for the 1983-1984 season, according to Nielsen Media Research television ratings.
But history was to have the final judgment — the A-Team continued until 1987, long after AfterMASH had become a distant memory.

AfterMASH is an example of a spin-off that is not well received.
Before the final season of M*A*S*H the main cast voted as to whether or not to continue the series.
Without those cast members and writers who made the original TV show sucessful, AfterMASH was never as popular as the original.

I, for one, am tired of "AfterMASH" being the TV industry joke; the joke being that a spin off of a popular series can't survive without major cast members.
AfterMASH was a fine series, with Potter, Klinger, and Mulcahy dealing with issues which occur when the bullets stop flying.
AfterMASH will never be a lost classic; rather, it's a what-might-have-been, and television's loaded with them.

Edward Winter also reprised his role of Colonel Flagg in "Trials." None of the other actors from M*A*S*H appeared in "AfterMASH." The series has been rerun rarely since its first run.

I watched "AfterMASH" for the short time it was on, and I enjoyed just as much as I did "M*A*SH".

Short-Lived Shows: AfterMASH - TV Squad   (Site not responding. Last check: 2007-10-10)
Despite the fact that AfterMASH had many of the same writers and directors as the original show, the episodes didn't crackle with the expert comic timing and back-and-forth dynamic the original had.
Viewers noticed this, and as the 1983-84 season ended, the high-flying show's ratings were in a steep decline (it finished in 15th place at the end of the season).
AfterMASH was a terrible show for the reasons stated above, simply that MASH itself was simply about normal people being thrown together in terrible circumstances.

Even Frasier, which I thought was horrible, with all its Emmys had a fraction of the audience Cheers had.
Look at where ABP and AfterMASH came from, the 2 most groundbreaking shows ever; AITF that averaged 50-60 million people for 5 seasons, and MASH whose last show had an all-time viewing audience of 105-120 million people.

Chao was Rika, the girlfriend of the disabled runner Fox, who had lost a leg to cancer.
History repeated itself somewhat a decade after "AfterMASH", when Chao's recurring character of ship's botanist Keiko married engineering chief Miles O'Brien (Colm Meaney) well into the run of the popular syndicated sci-fi update "Star Trek: The Next Generation".

Then again, the spinoff "AfterMASH" featured several popular characters from the original series, Col. Sherman Potter, Max Klinger and Father Francis Mulcahy working together at a post-Korean War Missouri Veterans Administration hospital.
The victim of critical barbs and sinking ratings, the ill-fated "AfterMASH" was canceled midway through its second season.

Debuting September 26, 1983, the CBS sitcom AfterMASH detailed the further adventure of several M*A*S*H regulars, all hired by a Missouri VA hospital upon the Korean cease-fire.
Suffering the ignominous fate of most such spinoffs, AfterMASH failed to live up to the standards of its distinguished predecessor, and was cancelled after only a season and a half on the air.

AfterMASH was a spin-off from the widely popular comedy show M*A*S*H, the show revolves around some of the characters from the original show after they've returned home from the Korean war, were they work at a Veteran's Hospital in Missouri.
This show was very short-lived compared to the original M*A*S*H, probably because some of the more popular characters from the original never appeared.
