		A meeting was called in the village of Afton on December 6, 1867, for the purpose of interesting the people in the education of the young men and women of this county and to consider the construction of an academy.
		In 1880, the population of Afton township was 925 and the valuation of real estate, $248,555.00 The population in 1932 is 871 and the present valuation of real estate is 498,425.00.
