	Isle of Wight Apple Day at Afton Park near Freshwater Bay
		Afton Park is on the B3399 near the junction of the A3055 close to Freshwater Bay at the western end of the Isle of Wight, close to the sea and at the foot of the chalk downs - a beautiful part of the world.
		The famous Isle of Wight Pop Festival was held just a mile away at Afton Down and this part of the Isle of Wight is much the same as it was then.
		From Afton Down and the Golf Course - follow the chalk bridleway but turn north onto the Afton footpath which leads you off the Downs and across the fields.

	Memories of a wonderful convalescence at Freshwater, on the Isle Of Wight, Hampshire, UK.
		There were green rolling downs to walk over, miles of beaches, and plenty of things to see and do to help the holiday-maker forget work for a while.
		This toilet was in a shed down the side of the garden and we had to use a torch at night to find our way there and back.
		This down was named after Alfred Tennyson, the poet, and there is a tall stone cross on the summit in his memory.

		The other two monuments are a long barrow on Afton Down and a 'mortuary enclosure' on Tennyson Down.
		Material from the graves and pits beneath the mound was used for radio carbon dating, these dates were found to range between 1600 B.C. to 1400 B.C. At least eighteen ring ditches (the remains of barrows) were discovered in the Wellow/Thorley area in 1977 from the air as crop marks.
		After a steep climb up the brook, go down for half a mile (up to the right of the track) where the barrows are situated on the highest point of the down, near the Ordnance Survey trig.

	Cradock High School, Portsmouth, Virginia Reunions

		Black Craig, the highest hill in Ayrshire can be found in the heart of Burns country and is steeped in history and it is believed that William Wallace held a Royal Residence here.
		Rabbie Burns wrote poetry on the banks of the River Afton which flows through the beautiful Glen Afton.
		I did the straight forward way up to Black Craig and returned down the face of the hill as the weather was taking a turn for the worse.
