The township is abundantly watered by tributaries of the Arkansas River, Spring Creek, Spring Branch, Dry Creek, Polecat and Eightmile Creek.
The eastern part of the township, averaging four miles in width, is sub-irrigated, never failing to produce a crop, making it one of the most desirable, as well as richest soil regions in the county.
The township abounds in elegant farm houses, barns, granaries, and is a wilderness of well-cared-for orchards, bearing an abundance and variety of fruit.

In the fall of 1852 the first white child was born in Washington Township; a son, Scott Warren, was born to the Morgan Warrens.
At this time it encompassed 36 Congressional townships, or the present areas of Montgomery and Union counties as well as that of Adams.

By 1873, Attica Township was established west of Wichita and drew many settlers from eastern states and European countries.
A Methodist church was planned at Blendon during 1882-1883, but before construction started the Santa Fe Railroad made it's second survey and located the railroad 1 1/2 miles south through the current city of Goddard.
After Goddard became a town, the Blendon and Afton post offices were combined with Goddard.
