		Against the Grain should not be confused with the Rory Gallagher album of the same title.
		This is the last album recorded with drummer Pete Finestone who left in 1991 to concentrate with The Fishermen and replaced by the next drummer Bobby Schayer shortly before their 8th release, Generator.

		The appropriately titled 'Against the Grain' has a superb acoustic take on a leadbelly song, 'Out On The Western Plain' and Bo Carter's 'All Around Man' are nicely tucked in towards the end of this album.
		'Against the Grain' is, on the whole, a hard rock album heavily reliant on tracks with solid riffs but interspersed with slower tracks like the beautiful melodic 'Ain't Too Good' and the Boogie style 'Bought And Sold'.
		Despite signing to a new company for a six album recording contract, Rory stayed true to the Blues even when his contemporaries were changing to a more commercial sound.

		Pantera's eighth (yes, eighth) effort opens with a heaviness that was blinding to me, while Phil Anselmo's screeching and the speed may not be as crushing and intimidating now, this is still a very good album to listen to whenever, very musically powerful and rich.

		In general the themes that the band pursue on this album are the environment ("Unnaceptable"), religious fanaticism ("Operation Rescue" featuring a cameo from Circle Jerks frontman Keith Morris), and the state of mankind as they see it ( the superior original recording of "21st Century Digital Boy").
		The album was self produced, and contains in my opinion, the most soaring guitar tone on a record since Husker Du's "Warehouse: Songs and Stories", and Greg Graffin never matched the vocal intensity of this album.
		Musically there is little difference between them, but lyrically this album shows a big difference between the two of them.
